I have 3 mechanical mods . .smok Telescope, Smok Magneto and Sentinel Clone.

I hate the smok telescope - nothing good to say about it.
Cons:
Flimsy
Too much play in the telescoping tube
Crappy switch with glued down spring
Press-fit head that you can't adjust or easily take apart
Ugly (in my opinion)
Crunchy threading

The Magneto -
Pros:
I love the magnetic switch (obviously).
I like the overall look of it. Looks great with RSST or Igo-L on it.
Nice threads - especially on the lock-out ring.

Cons:
Non-adjustable center pin
Too long - ridiculously so with an 18650

Sentinel Clone in brass (fasttech):
Pros:
Awesome mod for less than $20
Floating center pin lets you flush-mount anything
Great threads
Very small mod - in 18650 mode, it's the same size as my Magneto in 18500 mode.
You can completely disassemble this mod - including the fire button

Cons:
Finish gets really tarnished really quick
Non-reverse threaded lockout
Looks a bit like plumbing hardware (actually quite ugly, in my opinion)
Fire button tends to loosen with use - constantly tightening it.

At the end of the day, a mech mod is nothing more than a metal tube that you put a battery in. Unless there's something wrong with it - it performs about as well as your battery . .nothing more, nothing less. All 3 of my mechs will give me the same quality vape. My sentinel seems to hit ever so slightly harder than the other 2 . .but that's easily compensated for by using a few tenths of an ohm less resistance.

What's left is the appearance, the material (I really like stainless steel), the quality of the the threading and a few features . .like adjustable pin or not, reverse or regular threaded lockout, telescoping (yes!) or multiple tubes (no!), the feel and placement of the switch, etc.

If you make a stainless steel mech with a reverse-threaded lock-out, decent threads and an adjustable center pin . .I'd say you'd have a pretty nice mod - depending on the looks, on par with any of the tube mods out there.

Bottom-feeders like the REO are pretty cool, too . .I don't have one, though. Waiting for fasttech to knock one off, lol.

Let's see...
THE GOOD
All brass sentinel clone
Pros- low voltage drop, looks cool, less than twenty bucks
Cons- smells funny, to big, switch comes loose every once in awhile

EHpro EA clone
Pros- feels great, extremely low voltage drop, super soft throw, adjustable center pin, looks great
Cons-some batteries auto fire if you screw the bottom tube on to tight

EHpro bagua/caravela
Pros-soft switch, short throw, low voltage drop, clean look
Cons- must use locking ring to set it down, very expensive with all tube sizes

MKB-TS
Pros- uses real gg threading, soft throw, short throw, low voltage drop, many configurations, air flow control
Cons-switch gives me troubles occasionally

THE BAD
Private v2 clone
Pros- lightweight, huge telescoping capabilities
Cons- top and bottom caps don't come off, battery changes take forever, aluminum feels cheap

RH sprite
Pros- small, air flow control
Cons- high voltage drop, very lose switch

Smok magneto
Pros-thin, magnetic switch, soft throw
Cons- long throw, locking ring gets stuck, no adjustable center pin, giant smok logo, engravings are stupid, semi high voltage drop

DHX-TS
Poorly made tobecco version of MKB-TS

El Kapitan
Pros-low voltage drop, looks fantastic, virtually no throw in switch
Cons-way to expensive, same voltage drop as EA clone for 4 times as much money, low supply, locking ring gets stuck easily, your just buying the serial number

THE UGLY
smok natural
Pros-can be reasonably priced
Cons-voltage drop to high for a solid tube, firing pin is thin and wobbly, button is weird, can't use all battery configurations

Sigelei 13
Pros-It looks cool
Cons-huge voltage drop, cheap squeaky threads

Sigelei 19
Pros-they did nothing right with tHis one
Cons-everything about it was done wrong

I have 4 mechanicals and I'm quite fond of three of them.

1.) GP Paps v2.5 SS. I'm in love with the button on this thing. The throw is super short and the action is smooth and light--it might as well be a touch button. The Paps button is the standard to which I will hold all bottom buttons from here out. I'm also quite a fan of the clean and minimal aesthetic--it's a classy looking mod. The thing I hate about it is how hard it is get a hold of an 18500 tube for it :(

2.) Super-T Precise Simplicity 14500. I love the button on this thing too. The throw isn't quite as short as the throw on the Paps, but it's darn close. The action is super light and smooth as well. I'm a huge fan of the palladium coated contacts--super easy to clean. The Simplicity was my first step into higher end mods, so it's got a special place among my vape gear. It's just a well made, quality piece. I do wish it had an adjustable center post, but I can live without it. The thing I hate about it is how hard it is to find a high-end, silica based, tank RBAs for it; there just aren't many options in 16mm.

3.) Kamry Telescopic Storm. This was my first mod. It's fallen out of favor with me since I got my first taste of higher-end mods. It works fairly well, but that's all it really has going for it these days. There are a few other things that bother me about the KTS, but I really hate how the tubes wobble. Every time I press the firing button, the tubes shift--it just doesn't feel solid. But for $20, it's not as though I should have expected stellar fit and finish.

4.) Hcigar Chi You Clone. I was actually really surprised by this one. It's actually a pretty well made piece. It's got a nice heft to it, it's pretty well machined, and it hits pretty darn hard (I'm waiting on parts for a tankometer to actually quantify this relative to my other mods). I love that it's such a solid mod for the $60 I paid for it. I do hate that Hcigar went as far as copying the markings on the Chi You in its clone--I'm not trying to fake like I have a Chi You, and I don't want people thinking that it's a Chi You. I just wanted a solid beater mod. I'm gonna try taking the markings off with some polishing film--it bothers me that much. I hate how the locking ring isn't reverse threaded--I understand that that a "feature" of the Chi You as well. And I hated the spring that came stock in the button. I replaced it with the spare spring for my Paps. Much better :)

5.) Super-T ELA (on pre-order). I hate the wait! No plans on cancelling my pre-order though. It seems to have all the features I want in a mod: adjustable center post; bottom button; low-maintenance contacts; no-wobble, no screwing-unscrewing telescopic design. I'm in love with the idea of the ELA, but the wait sucks all kinds of unmentionables...
