Built this today and am having issues in my KFL+ clone. Here's the particulars:

29g Kanthal annealed with torch
7 wraps on 14g blunt needle (1.8ohm on Provari)
Peaches and Cream cotton yarn from Walmart

alien Visions PG Hype and PG Pineapple Pulp

Getting a very muted flavor and not much vapor. Wicking seems to be an issue as well. juice is getting burnt above 3.5v as well.

I hate to say it but my Kanger Aerotank is better ATM then my KFL+ build.

See anything wrong with the below pics?

Coil looks good as long as that one leg isn't touching the center post. I would take out a strand of yarn and trim off the loops on the ends. Leave it just long enough to touch the deck, just graze the deck and don't let it go into the holes. Less is more and when you get it you'll know.

JG - Trying to be simple again.

Interesting that the wick is discolored on one side only. Possible hot spot on the coil at that end?
ah good eye; that is weird

Might just have to do with how the darker side coil is making better contact with the platform and likely wicking more effectively -- doesn't look like burning to me (the wick in the coil is light) but instead build-up of microparticulate in the wick. I feel that this would also F-up the flavor, not getting an even vape across the whole coil.

Still think the main problem is the distance of the coil from the air intake though

Johnson&johnson Q-tips is made with Pure cotton, #1 premiun grade cotton. I just kinda pull it straight off the end, thumb and 2 fingers and pull over the cotton tip not hard but frim. you'll have to do this a bunch of times, it will start to cone off in a nice wick al most a pre-made wick..lol try it, you'll like it!!

The discolored part was actually directly under the coil. It moved a little when I was disassembling.

How far up should I try to move the coil?

Think I'm going to try the q tip wick. Any suggestions?

TBH an organic cotton ball is just as good or better, likely better, than a q-tip

it should be high enough that the air has a chance to fully envelope and pass the coil, maybe 1/8inch (3mm)

Going to give this another try today. Stay tuned for pics. The two things I have gathered from this thread that I'm going to do are:

1. Raise coil a little higher above air hole.
2. Take one strand out of yarn.
3. Try q-tip cotton.
4. Going for a 1.3 - 1.5ohm coil this time. 14g (around 2mm) blunt needle. 8 wraps ended up being 1.6ohm.
