Little Weary Of Switching

First off, hello all. I've been smoking for 5 years now, about a pack a week (not a lot, i know) and have been really tempted by switching to e-cigs for quite some time. Like most people i just did a quick search and found Blu, and almost bought it.

But thankfully i searched a bit more and found the reviews on it not the most impressive. But I love the way the blu is set up and works. Then i stumbled on the Volcano Magma, and it really has me tempted.

I have read more reviews, and started looking into the Joye EGO as well, but i keep coming back to the Magma. It just seems like an easier one to start with in my mind. Have i convinced myself something wrong? I just love the pack and how it charges everything. Thats honestly whats sold me on it.

Im looking for all input. I've read reviews, but still on the fence.

We can all give you advice, but in the end, it's a personal decision.

I started with a mall e-cig, then bought a 510, and a week later, order an Ego. I've been vaping with the Ego for 5 months now and it's perfect.... for me, that is.

Plenty of people swear by the Ego, so the chances are high that you'll like it. The problem is, you may have to spend the money to find out. But the way I look at it is, no matter what I spent to get the right e-cig in the end, I saved it all back by not smoking.

PaperTreeProphet,

As you can tell, and as previously mentioned, what you end up with is a personal decision. Just starting out I would recommend a Joye 510 starter kit. Even if you move on to another unit, this starter kit will come with the basics you need to get started and will make a good back up unit should you move on to something else later. The main thing is to get started.

You will also need some juice so I'd recommend you get a couple of small bottles of juice from the same place you get your pv kit from. It just makes it easier and will save you a little shipping cost for now. If you try juices from different places so be it - we all do. Again, just get started.

Good luck!

i would def recomend the ego as a starter. i started with mine two weeks ago and ive almost completely kicked the habit of a pack a day already. if you can get past the "i want it to look like a real cig" thing youll be very happy. i would say just go for the ego off the bat like i did cause the batterys last me all day sometimes two. i think the transition would have been a lot hard for me if i had lower ated batterys cause im out of my house for 12-15 hours a day betwean work and other things and if my ecig died throught the day somewhere, id sure as heck be more temped to smoke a regular cig to compensate. i thought about getting the 510 but after listening to other people the ego was a no brainer for the 10$ more it costs. also i sugest trying the ego mega cartomizers if you do get one. i can go for more then two days on one fill in a carto and if your not sitting home all day you cant beat the conveinence of not having to drip every hour into a regular cartrage while your working or driving. they are also really consistent and although not as good as a atty/cart combo, their close enough that the added convenience makes it worth it. plus its makes the learning curve a lot easier in my opinon scince if you kill a carto by accident for whatever reason, your out $2.50 instead of $10. much easier on the wallet till you get the whole feeling of how these things work and whatnot.

No, I don't think you've convinced yourself of something wrong. The Magma is a 510 with a PCC (charging case), right? That would probably work great for you since you are a pretty light smoker. I was about a PAD and while I really liked my 510, swapping batteries with one charging on the PC or wall outlet at all times was a bit annoying. I was looking into a PCC for my 510 to make this easier, but found the Riva 510 Kit for a few bucks more ($30 from Liberty Flight).

Welcome to the forums!!

The Volcano Magma is just a 510. A lot of people like them. They can be found cheaper elsewhere, but the packaging that Volcano uses is nice. The charging pack is a PCC and if you're using those small batteries it'll come in handy. With an eGo or Riva you don't need one though. The standard 510 uses a 180 mah battery, the standard eGo has a 650 mah batt. Over triple the capacity. Two eGo batt's will last all day.
If you decide to go with a 510 look here 510 Kits. They have the standard size and the mega with a much larger batt. They also have a PCC kit if you want to go that route. The packaging isn't as pretty, but I just throw that stuff away anyway.
For eGo's or Riva's check Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510. They're about the same price as the 510 kit and if you use the coupon code at the top of their website it's actually cheaper.
Both the 510 and eGo/Riva are good units. With the 510 you'll get the small size, and since you don't smoke much it would probably handle your needs pretty well. With the eGo/Riva you'll not have to worry about recharging batt's all the time. A 510 is about the size of a 100 cig, the eGo/Riva is about the size of a 40 ring cigar, so take that into account too.

It really depends on if you feel the need for a more cig shaped e-cig. I started with a 510 and it was great. But it didn't take long before I wanted something with a better battery and I had gotten over the cig shaped thing. No matter what you use it still isn't going to be a cig. I would probably go for the eGo or an eGo clone like the riva.

Welcome and congrats on deciding on getting off analogs (regular cigs)!

A pack a week is only about 3 cigs a day, so battery life may not be as important to you.
The fat battery models will last a pack a day smoker for about one day.
The regular 510 looks more like a normal cig, and is rock solid. There's many suppliers,
check the front page for ECF registered and fire tested vendors. The ego / magum will
look more like a small cigar, not a bad thing in my mind, YMMV.

Start with very light juices, 6-10mg/mL should handle your nicotine cravings, might
even try 0 nic. As a former 1 1/2 pad smoker, I go thru about 3mL a day, so that much
may last you a week, so sample packs of 3 mL flavors would be your best bet.

Keep your nicotine level low for your juice, as vaping tastes so much better than
smoking you may find yourself doing it more often.

Merrry Christmas and Happy Vaping New Year

Hi and welcome to ECF! You've gotten some great advice here. So many people are so quick to jump on the "ya gotta get an eGo" bandwagon, and never stop to consider what the OP actually said. The only real difference between the kit you are looking at (a 510 model) and the eGo is battery life between charges. You said you only smoke about a pack PER WEEK, so really, battery life isn't really much of an issue for you. Especially since your kit is going to come with a PCC.

I've used my 510 (and a PCC) since I started vaping and as an ex-1.5 PAD smoker it's been all I need. My batteries last 3-4 hours, only take about 1 hour to recharge, so I'm literally *never* without a charged battery.

I love my eGo for it's versatality, flavor, vapor and battery life. The 900 mah eGo especially. I can use LR cartomizers or attys and achieve huge plumes of vapor... that's not recommended with a smaller mah battery like the regular (but good!!) little 510 type. I recommend the eGo to all new and used PV owners. They're lightweight enough to hang frrom the neck in a Lanyard so it's always in reach yet out of the way, too. The eGo has a cone cover that not only warms the vapor a tiny notch for great flavor, but it acts also as a juice catcher. No matter what eCig you get, there will always be a little drippy leak from somewhere at some time. The eGo has tons of optional goodies that are fun to try at leisure, as time and money permit, while you happily vape away with what you have at the moment.

With that said, to be honest, chances are that when you do start vaping and find flavors that you really like, you'll soon start to panic about having Backups... just like we used to do with those stinky analogs. It doesn't really matter what you start with, because you'll end up buying a backup kit anyway of one kind or another. ... or face the consequences of going back to tobacco and burning eyes, wheezy lungs, stinky clothes, dropped ashes, dirty ashtrays, and murderous glares from others.

I've never used the Magma, so I can't recommend or dis-recommend it. I don't know anything about it's character or craftsmanship. It sounds like you've done your research, however, and can purchase with ease of mind.

Have a Merry Christmas, and get both! You can't go wrong.

I know it's already been stated.

But I would also start with an Ego (or Ego clone). They have all of the ease of a simple 3-piece design, and with the availability of 510 cartos, they also have all of the ease of simpler 2-piece designs.

What makes them better of course, is the much longer lasting batteries compared to KR-808s and standard Joye 510's.

I have given out Ego's to freinds and family looking for a good starter e-cig with enormous success.

I would NOT go with an ego. The batteries are unprotected, so, in the event that an atomizer shorts out the battery, you could have a fire on your hands. Also, they are very cheaply made compared to some other PVs that are currently available. The switch goes off super easy in a pocket. And, they produce less vapor than, for example, a KR808D-1 because the batteries put out about a half volt less under load. I have an ego, and there are many things I like about it, so I am just mentioning the cons here, so that the OP may be shielded from some of the ego "dogma" that floats around this forum.

Top reason to get an ego: you can use low resistance(lr) attomizers. Same price, size, and look as a regular atomizer. But it produces 3x the vapor of a standard 510 or a kr80&. I have an 808 and never touch it. No comparison. For whatever reason you can't use lr atties on a standard 510 battery. A normal 510 atty would never satisfy me.

2nd reason: I smoked two packs a day and one battery will last me all day. Your gonna vape more than you smoked(everyone does). Who wants to carry a pack and extra batteries around worrying if it will be charged before the other one runs out. I carry an assembled ego and a small bottle of juice in my pocket and don't have a thing to worry about all day. I do keep a spare battery and atty in my car just incase.

3rd reason: it's cheaper!!! Not sure what a 510 kit with pcc costs but I know it's more than the $30 you'll spend at liberty flights for a riva battery. You'll need a few extra attys so get a few lr attys and I bet you never use the standard attys. Oh, and some juice.

The juice is the hard part. The ego should be a no brainer. Cheaper and better. Hmmmmm..... Good luck man!!!

"Top reason to get an ego: you can use low resistance(lr) attomizers."

And risk a short, and it is widely known that LR atomizers cause premature battery failure...

"Your gonna vape more than you smoked(everyone does)."

I don't.

And I'm not comparing the ego to the 808. I simply stated that the ego is one of the only batteries that runs at 3.2 volts instead of a true 3.7 volt device. So, same atomizer, less vapor.

I don't want to get into a fight.

Everything I have said is true.

This is what I mean by ego dogma.

I have been vaping for 3 years and my PV is not an ego. Handle it.

For someone who is a relatively light smoker and would like ease of use I heartily recommend looking at a kr808d-1 -nhaler, vaporsetc, vapor4life (their vaporking), many others sell them. Probably a basic two battery kit, automatic batteries, perhaps the xl or mega for decent run time.

An 808 with prefilled cartos is a very easy to use configuration, good vapor, warm.

No reason to muck with manual batteries, big batts, atomizers, etc.

Vapor4life has 30% off through tonight, christmas30 code, if you grab one of their starter kits and a couple packs of prefilled cartos, maybe 24 and 18 mg strength, you will likely be good to go.

Simple can be good, you don't need complex or large.

The OP said they smoked a pack a week, average would be 3 cigs a day
A PV is a personal vaporizor, should fit the person.

Do they really need a battery that will last a week without recharge? When a simple 808
or 510 would work wonders for their situtation?

The ego works for me, but 3 cigs was what I smoked before getting out of bed in the AM,
or maybe an extended smoke break. Somewhat overkill for what the OP is asking about.

Welcome. I use a variety of different brands/models, one of them being the Volcano mini-cig. I really like it a lot, very low maintenance when using the pre-filled cartridges and very yummy flavors (I have a sweet tooth!). Based on the quality of this product, I would recommend giving the Magma a try and if you find the batteries don't last long, you can get an Inferno battery which is interchangable with the Magma parts. Essentially, the Magma is a branded 510 and the Inferno is a branded eGo. Many people in this forum have indicated they can use these interchangeably with their other 510 and eGo type parts. I also particularly enjoy my Modern Vapor products, which seem to be similar in quality and popularity. Good luck and happy vaping!
