I like how people use the fact that PCs get viruses to put down PCs. Anybody with 1/4 of a brain should never get a virus in their life.

I have a PC desktop, but I also have a macbook and an iphone, and I don't plan on switching my main computer (desktop) to a mac any time soon. There's nothing wrong with them, I just don't like snow leopard and I never liked any of the mac OS's.

So so right you are. I've had my own computer business for 20 years and I can tell you that of the 600 or so systems I support, (99% are business systems), very few have ever had any infections of any kind. The ones that did were because the user was doing something they probably shouldn't have been doing. (Note that more than half are NOT using Internet Explorer which is a big help right there).

Of the customers of mine that have purchased a MAC, most of them are in a closet somewhere. Of the ones in use they are all running Fusion or Parallels and have XP installed.

In the end it really is about value.

Funny story but true:

Way back when (ha ha), I was a happy Windows user. Then I moved in with roommates who occasionally used my computer.

Then came the anti-virus apps.

then came the anti-malware apps.

Then came Linux, and the roommates stopped touching my computer. :D

I'm back in Windows now as the soundcard is a problem child in Linux, but I will always look back fondly at the deterrent qualities of KDE. :)

PC girl here! 15 years ago the school district decided all the student computers (labs and teacher stations) would be Macs and the administrative computers (office) would remain PC. Well of course, the teachers were alway contacting me to fix things on the Macs and it drove me crazy because I am not familiar with Macs. I would always manage to figure it out but talk about your basic nightmare! Now all the student computers are PC again and my life is much easier.

I am sure Macs are fine, but I love PCs. It's all in what you are used to I think. My step brother always manages to talk my mom into buying Macs. Then when she can't figure out how to do something, she calls me. I keep telling her Mom, if you would just get PCs I could walk you through just about anything over the phone. Instead, I have to go to her house to look at it and fiddle with it. Grrrrrrrr!

why would we want to go to africa?

I have no idea - perhaps you found a discount somewhere?

Also, I have been a tech or field tech for the last 15 years... I have to have a windows workstation at all times. In fact I have a Vista Ultimate laptop, XP Pro station, and my wife's PC is XP Home.

I've never used the virus argument with Windows because frankly, I've had one virus ever in what, 29 years of owning computers? And 14 of those being DOS/Windows 3.x to present.

I use Ubuntu simply because it is fun for me as a developer, it's free, it's fast, it has all the apps I need for web development built in, it never crashes - ever (I don't have tons of unecessary gunk installed though either)

Enjoy!!
