I have been building quite a collection of flavorings and I am wondering what is the best way to store them, and what their shelf life is. Will refrigeration keep them longer? Should they also be stored in the dark? (I think that's just for nicotine, but not sure)

How do you store your flavorings?

Thanks.

I think cleolove is referring to flavorings, not flavored juices. I have many many flavorings from different companies (Lorann, Capellas, TPA), and they have gone many many months at room temp without any change at all. Some flavorings are known to fade some, such as some chocolates, but I know of none that actually go bad.

Flavored juices, especially fruit flavors where water is present in the juice too, have been known to go bad over time, even in the fridge. So I only make enough of a juice to last a couple of weeks at a time. When I run out I make more fresh.

Your right. My bad.

I still wouldn't put flavorings in the frig. A cool dark place like a desk drawer works best for me.

I agree, cool dark place, heck I don't see Lorann, Capellas, TPA refrigerating there stock and you know they must have some that sits for quite a while at times before it moves and is sold. I also agree with Kurt, I like to make enough of what I am going to use then make more fresh when needed, same with ordering juice I don't order tons of juice and re-up when needed so I am always getting fresh juice !

Mine are in a carboard box or tool box. Hot, cold, in between, no effect. I believe there is in general nothing to "go bad" in them. The only one I have to be careful with is my own tobacco essence that I make from pipe tobacco and VG. That one will turn nasty after some weeks, but then it probably has plant biomolecules in it that bacteria like to eat. Bacteria don't like PG (most common flavor vehicle) or simple flavor compounds. No food there, and PG just kills them, as does alcohol, which is in some flavorings.

I cannot comment on the natural organic flavorings that are becoming available. If they are extracted from plant/fruit/coffee directly and then purified, there may be an issue. Vaping is the one form of ingestion that I prefer everything to be simple chemicals, not only for shelf life, but atty preservation, and less health risk with inhalation. That said, I would so love to recreate Vaperite's Kona Cream, which they claim is all organic and VG only. OMG it is delicious!

My Riva kits came in sturdy, black cardboard boxes that have a magnetic flap to keep it closed. They now hold my flavors. :)

Gave me an idea: how about using a sixpack cooler for storing flavors and juice? Almost everyone has those.

These are both Very Good ideas. The best thing to store juice in for me is something I already have.
