Just an update, I received my new setup yesterday. I'm slightly upset over just one thing, but it really isn't a huge deal. My ZMax came in a sealed white box, but when I get it opened up, there is a couple of huge scratches in the screen. Then when I put my protank 2 together with the 2.5 ohm included coil, it registered a 9.9v on the zmax and wouldn't hit. I switched it over to the other included coil which is a 1.8 ohm and it worked fine. No issues. Called the place I got it from up and they said they couldn't do anything for me, but would include free coils in my next purchase. So yea, a little annoyed, but other than that..

Now, on a better note, has an awesome vape. I love it already. Still messing with the wattage settings, but I'm happy. Would like to know if I should set it on mean or RMS. Some say one thing and other say the other, so I'm not sure where to go with this one.. Any insight? Oh, and what ohm coils should I look into getting?

Hi Damien. Sorry about the screen. Sucks. Surprised DV won't accomodate you. Still 50 bucks is not a bad deal.

Listen, you want to use RMS. To my understanding it's a more accurate measure of the actual voltage applied. Avg power will seem to give you a hotter vape but RMS will provide the most consistent power all the way to battery cut-off. By selecting Power you are electing for Watts to be fixed and variable Voltage will be applied accordingly. RMS is the accurate indication in a DC circuit, Average will not be.

I have several of zMax devices and they seem to have have different chipsets (despite all being v3). For example, one of my slope heads has an annoying feature in that it reverts to the default 3.0V when the battery is strained hard. A temperature sensor/feature/defect, who knows? My theory, it tends not to happen as often when you have the correct complement of both voltage and resistance set. The zMax doesn't relate voltage and resistance in display settings automatically as say an eVic does. When you select Power in the 7th Menu it will display the Watts in Menu 2/3, not Volts. You'll have to do that and must before you set Menu 7. Otherwise, you have no sense of voltage selected or applied. You must be mindful of the coil resistance you are using, just as if you were using a mechanical mod. Good practice in any case. If you haven't seen it, you should become familiar with the relationships between ohms/volts/current. Good chart for working your settings...

If you vape hard as I do at times, you may need to true the settings to get uninterrupted consistent performance (or it may revert to 3.0V). A pain, but once you get the hang of the relationships you just do it when you set up your tank and forget it. My flat-tops all perform flat out regardless of the voltage set. So hopefully you won't encounter this "feature".

Good luck and enjoy!

:)
