No experience with the smok version, but most clones ( not all ) are ok to give you some idea if dripping is for you.
Remember just because you can run duel coils doesn't mean you have to.

Remember also that a 2ohm build will require TWO 4 ohm coils...thats alot of wire to heat up and most likely will not give you a satisfying vape.

Because the tobh doesnt have any way to adjust for just single coil AIR FLOW most will assume it has to be built duel....not the case.... The little tooth on either side gives you the option to tighten the airflow...1 or 2 or 3 holes...opened up/airier.

But there is no reason you can't build a 1.5-1.7 ohm single coil, tighten up the airflow and use your z-max.

You will then realize that with all the money you save buying replacement coils you can get the new shiny bazillion watt mod....its a slippery slope....I've already busted my .... on! LOL

Good luck, keep reading and then just jump in...

Haha thanks. I was thinking would it be possible to run two .85 coils for a total of 1.7 ohms with the sigelei and a single 18650 battery or two 18350 batteries?

I just want to be sure I'm over the 1.3 ohm cutoff and still be able to safely cape without worrying about my mod shorting out or any battery issues.

I am most likely going to go for the igo-w4. It seems very beginner friendly and has more positive than negative reviews.

I think I'm still a ways off the bazillion watt mod haha. First I want to have a better understanding of all the technical details relating to ohms/amp/mag/current/etc.

I also never played with stacking batteries, some guide lines for that practice also...lots of info on here about that.

But again just to clarify....duels don't add together.....they half...power split between the two...just to simplify...
If you build and like 1 ohm at 10 watts( just example)
Now you build a duel 1 ohm build you would need to build two identical 1 ohm coils and it would read as a 1 ohm build. BUT 10 watts is just not gonna give you the same hit...because its like effectively only giving 5 watts to each of those 1 ohm coils....
Hope that makes sense :p
That duel 1 ohm build would need almost twice the power to give you the same feel....now your cranking up to 18-20 watts....need more air flow...

Good luck, all the answers are in here somewhere or just keep asking.

I am on here everyday and am still learning, i was a lurker for a year and finally joined. Quit cigs in Nov of 13 and have learned almost everything on here or links to youtube.
I haven't been building long but I was just done spending 12-16 dollars for coils.

I can't believe all the new words in my vocabulary these days and what I've been able to learn and do. But I take care of my husband and mothers and also my own vaping needs including diy juice these days. Much cheaper to build coils and diy juice when there are three of us vaping....

Yes I would stick to singles on the z max....
Just retired mine about a month ago...but it was my go to for about 6 month...nice mod
Husband had the gun metal adjustable and I had the mini

There's nothing wrong with NOT building subohm coils, or NOT using atties designed for cloud production. The small the atty chamber, the more concentrated the flavor will be on your tastebuds. A simple, small atty with a single coil in the 1.5-2.0ohm range will deliver excellent flavor. I strongly recommend the EHPro version of the Atomic, which has airflow control. You should find one for under $25. Even better is the Vicious Ant Cyclone with AFC cap -- however, there's no clone of that one, and the original is over $60.

Edit: These guys have the EHPro Atomic clone for $17.99. Good deal. EHPro Atomic RDA Clone $17.99 - VividSmoke.com

Budget friendly online shop: 88eVape.

Depends if you like big clouds or great flavor production or both. Awesome flavor and cloud production: Doge X RDA, the 1 mm holes, 9 on each side can be closed off to get more flavor production or open wide for huge clouds. The atty will run about $15.00 plus shipping.

I have the Doge X (white & black) and Doge V2 (copper...don't get this one, a little coppery tasting especially at a build of 0.2).

Doge X is the way to go plus the deck has ample space for a beginner.

Let us know how it goes.

Start slow. Learn your math. Know your batteries. Just moving to rebuildables will enhance your vape exponentially, so you shouldn't feel the need to "max out" your builds.

28-30 awg wire is finicky - think of a d-string. It's easy to bend, but it likes to hold its original shape. You'll need more wraps as already mentioned. Great starting wire to practice on and should be suitable for rebuilding your spent prefab coils.

Learn that math. There are tools out there to assist you, but I'm a firm believer in having a comprehensive understanding of the simple equations in play, both for safety's sake and to help you build more intuitively as you go. Anyone can wrap a coil to a certain resistance; wrapping a coil optimally, however, is an ever-evolving process.

For me, the ritual of building my coils is part-and-parcel to the vape experience, but I do so with the confidence of a steady hand and an educated mind. Experiment, have fun, don't be surprised if you really end up enjoying it!

Great information in stickies on these forums. Don't just rely on videos.

Well I'm still on the search for a good single coil rba. There are just so many choices. Can any rba run a single coil build?

I've been practicing my coil building by recoiling my burnt out prorank 2 coils. I found that chart in one of the oldthreads that gives you the equations to determine the lengthof wire needed. I also downloaded the smartphone vapor app. Forgot the name of it.I'm able to reliably build the resistance I am going for, typically 1.6-2.0. But my coils are not the prettiest haha. Still working on getting them to look nice. But so far I've only had one leaking but that is because the atomized was a dud out of the package to begin with.

I already ordered the mutation haha. Watched a ton of reviews and it seemed the most beginner friendly to me. But I'm thinking of picking up one more rda just to have another "option". I think you guys here call it shinyitis haha.

I'm looking into the clt by infinite, thee magma, or little boy. I need something good for single coil builds and a flavor producer. I have not become a cloud chaser yet so flavor and ease of use is my priority.
