It's time to get a new mod. I looked through the e-cigarette mod database and found a few candidates, but it's been a while since I've been on the forums. Thought I'd check to see if anything fantabulous has come out recently, or is coming out soon, that isn't listed in the DB. I've got my eye on the Alpha, the Provape, and the Icon.

I absolutely do not want a REO! Both of my REOS have broken within months of buying them. I'm not taking a chance on another. (yes, I know I can send them in for repair. I want a mod I can rely on.)

Also, a few questions:

Can anyone confirm whether the Provape has an on/off switch? I see it has the 16 second cutoff, but haven't seen anything specific as to whether it can be fully turned off.

How's the lock on the Icon? Is it prone to unscrewing easily, thus unlocking itself?

Edit: Please limit suggestions to pocket safe 14500 mods only. I have a couple of dozen 14500's and my PV lives in my pocket. Those are hard requirements for me.

I don't have one but I keep looking at the vapage vmod. One review I read called it the best vape from a 14500 available. Vapage has fixed some of the early problems but a couple of things that bothers me is 1. they never seem to have the 2.8 ohm silo in stock and 2. the hybrid atty seems too pricey to suit me.

If you decide to research the vmod, I suggest posting in their section and find out what is available for it.

Edit: I found the thread. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/193272-vapage-vmod-3.html#post3749922

I have a few mods and must say the Provape is the best of them all. I have never had any problems with it. I don't need to fiddle with it, repair anything, or replace any parts. It is perfect everyday, and it comes with a lifetime guarantee. I have put it in my pocket with no issues, but my pockets are on baggier than tight fitting jeans, so wait for someone else to chime in on that.

The vapage looks pretty cool. Thanks for the link. I can't give up my beloved Ciscos though, and I'm not sure if it's worth getting a feeder when my attys aren't compatible with that aspect of it.

I've heard so many good things about the ProVape. I really want it to have an on/off switch. I don't wear tight pants, but I typically have full pockets. Something in my pocket always ends up jammed against the PV, pushing the button. Last time it happened, I burnt all the way through a 306 drip tip.

How on earth did you break your REO's? I've been beating the bejezus out of mine for well over a year.

I didn't break my REOS. They broke themselves. The switch on the first one broke. The second one shorted and collapsed the spring the second day after I got it. (There was nothing wrong with my battery or atty. I put them on my box mod and they worked fine.) Bottom line, 2/2 broke. I either have terrible luck, or people are way more tolerant of poorly made devices than I am. In any case, I'm not taking a chance on them again, and I'm not wasting any money sending them in for repair.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I assume you must be talking about a wood REO with the broken switch? I wouldn't think a woody would be a good candidate for your kind of use. If you have a metal one, the spring is easy to replace and costs just a few bucks. It is designed to collapse in case of a short, and perhaps it was more sensitive than your other mod. I hope you at least sent a PM to Rob to let him know what happened. Regardless, best of luck on your quest. Super-T makes some great mods, worth a look.

Broken switch - Grand. Collapsed spring - Mini. Rob was going to fix the Grand, but I ended up leaving my ex-wife a few days after I emailed him. Sending it in for repair became a very low priority. So, I used my box mods in the mean time. When things finally settled down, I decided the grand was too big anyway, so I got the mini. Two days later the spring collapsed.

I may replace the spring, but I'm pretty soured on REOs, especially when it could happen again. Stupid feature, imo. I'd much rather have a fried atty and/or batt, which I have tons of, than a completely dead device that needs a special part that only one person makes. (edit: Though, now I'm wondering if I can rig one of the springs from a dead box mod to work on the REO. Gonna have to take a look tonight.)

Main reason I'm looking for something new is because I expect a call from my mom any day now asking what I want for Christmas. :)

I've been in love with the super-T mods for a while now. Most elegant PVs on the market, imo. I would have bought one of them in a heartbeat if they had an off switch. :(

I carry my icon with me. I have not had a problem of the button unlocking on me in my pocket and I move around a lot at work. I do however unsvrew my Atty or car to from the mod itself, mainly to protect it from snapping apart. I don't really think that's a downside, just something I do on my own. Other than that I find it quite reliable and a good portable tube mod.

The spring for the Grand and Mini are the same - it's just a little .050 allen screw that holds it in. So you could get your Mini working in a hurry for nuttin'. After seeing a few pics of battery fires, I'd have to say I'd much rather replace a spring. What broke on the switch for the Grand? I disabled the lock on mine, never have needed it on either the Grand or the Mini. I took it apart, popped the button out and removed the little lock pin. It's never fired in my pocket.

Dunno. I pushed it one day, and it never rebounded. I think something broke internally. Can't remember if the spring collapsed on my grand when the switch gave out. I'll check it out when I get home tonight. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hopefully it is something simple - there really isn't much of anything to break in there. The button is delrin, and it just has a little pin going through it that locks if the button is turned clockwise. If you remove the cover that holds the button mechanism/firing pin in place, be careful putting it back together so as not to strip out the threads for the screw (they're small). If it's the spring on that one, too, you can get replacements at reosmods.com for a few bucks - I always keep a couple on hand just in case. They really are good mods, but I have to say you've had amazingly bad luck ;-)
