Even if you dont buy it from them, fasttech has 1900 mechs, you can get a great idea what you may like.reading the reviews and discussions for a model you like will let you know if its any good or problems to expect, if you find some you like you can track them locally if you want.

All mods, clone or authentic may have issues, buying an expensive authentic is no guarantee it will work flawless and just because its a cheap clone doesnt mean it is poorly made.

One of the best starter mods and one of my faves is still the nemesis. Usually 15-25 bucks for a decent one.

I currently use a vamo 5 ecig and would like to upgrade

Finding it very difficult with so many brands and mods to choose from

Any opinions on the best way to research the best mods for your price range?
Do you have your heart set on anything in particular? Are you comfortable with electrical safety and rebuilding?

Yes I have no problems with anything electrical

I'm also a contractor (general) and play with electric on a daily basis

The 2nd reason I was looking to move from my vamo is in interested in building my own wicks and coils so that's my main things I'm looking for the vamo 5 is nice while at work on a roof or stuck in a basement and such but I really want something nice for when I'm home I'm not fond of any of the box mods and am looking to make it a hobby at the same time

Trying to stay in $100-120 (usd) to get my full setup at the moment so I'd assume I'll be looking for a clone but bing so new to everything I don't know if that has to be the case or not

I know there are much more expensive mods but getting started and set up is my main goal at the moment

The first consideration is fixed tube or telescoping. The latter has lost ground in popularity. Fixed tube mods can come with three dedicated battery tubes, or if the shorter batteries are less likely to be used, just an 18650.

Contact materials are important, especially if you're going to run deep sub-ohm. Most mods will do 0.5Ω and higher without issue. A low resistance/high conductivity mod is required as you go deeper.
Copper is the material of choice... and higher end mods can have silver, rhodium, iridium or palladium platings to reduce corrosion and/or increase conductivity.

Adjustability is important if you want all your attys to sit flush, as well as your cap to battery tube joints. A dual telescopic 510 post is common, and sometimes even and single telescopic negative post can be found. My favorite is a floating 510, with a threaded positive battery contact.

Speaking of bottom buttons only... buttons can extend from the base surface, flush, or they can be countersunk below the lockring (if any) or the switch body. If a lockring is used, left hand thread is preferred.
Magnets and springs are the button counter-force. If done right, magnets work well, if done wrong and require very little or too much pressure... you're kinda stuck unless you can find different magnets of the same dimensions. This is where springs shine, in that the pressure is easily tunable.

My personal preferences are stainless steel or hardened aluminum fixed tube, absolute minimum firing pressure and button travel. A flush or slightly countersunk button, no lock ring... or if a lock ring, the button is still countersunk slightly into it, so that if not locked, the mod can still stand on end without firing.

Why stainless? Copper and brass are appealing, and some say that these materials improve conductivity... but that's not really true, considering there are zero voltage drop, stainless mods. I know, I own a few.
If you like the look of copper or brass, that'd be the main reason to buy one... but be prepared, especially with copper, to have thread wear and tube dent issues.

Along with the posts above mine, you have a good place to start.

Hi Mikedin,

I have been using the CF mech Mod by Aspire for 3 months now and it has been a great machine.

It uses 1 18650 battery which you remove and recharge. It fires on my .30 builds with no problem.

It has a nice curved fire button at the top with a low battery orange lite under button.

Button depresses nice and clicky and seems to be a quality piece.

I explained about the battery because there is another model that looks like the CF Mod that Aspire makes and that mod battery

is internal and you canot remove it just in case it would die.

FYI, the Aspire CF Batteries are regulated, non variable mods. They're not mechs. ;)

Ah, construction, yup a decent mech can be your best friend, sturdy and always reliable.

20150602_160754.jpg

Poldiac with kayfun 4 clone using a samsung 25r about $150 20 dollar xtar charger in the car.

I can hammer nails with this mod its so heavy. Been in my bag for 3 years now.

Your def going over 100 for everything mod, topper, battery, charger if you go full authentic. auth mods start in the 80+ range and go up.

Killer clones can be had for 15+
Get the nemesis, paaps vanilla or one of the other 100's on Ft with a clone tank about 50-60 charger and batts rtdvapor about 50. Wick n wire is dirt cheap for a mega supply.

Even if you do end up paying more for an authentic some of them hold up extremely well and you find the cost is worth it knowing the mod can take abuse and still fire everytime, everyday cause nothing is worse then being stuck in some out of the way crawl space only to find your mod won't fire.

My favourite mech mod is a clone Nemesis. It doesn't have the quality and feel of the real deal, but it has lasted very well. I prefer it to both my Sigelei mods, which were inexpensive 'original' designs.
There is a ss steel one on fasttech, has some 1500 ratings and it is every bit the original, you can barely feel the seems when you run a finger over them, i have 2 now and the brass one with like 700 ratings. Absolutely flawless clones

Pop the infinite kayfun on there for another 20 a couple of 10-15 dollar drippers and good to go.

This is a great price for a copper Nemesis from a reputable vendor , Infinite has a reputation as well for making solid clones .

    Hi caferacer,

There are two Aspire models one is a mod battery and the other is a mod in itself with a removable 18650 battery

    in which you charge up.

I guess you can't call the CF Mod a mech because it has wires going to the switch and electronics that tell you when your

    battery is low.

Just a suggestion as it seems to power my drippers ok...

    Threading is a consideration.

    I use m21x1 threaded mods:
    astro telescopic
    chiyou
    king.

same thread as my vamo and sigeli.

can get chiyou spare kick tubes topcaps and bottom caps from fastech

if we could only get thread adapters.

If you are getting a clone I strongly advise a spring based mod.

The button methods can vary wildly but the spring is less likely to be a flawed firing method.

Most of the clones with magnetic buttons for instance use really crappy magnets that wear out in a few weeks of heavy use. Once the magnet sticks (because it loses polarity) your mod will heat and without assistance (quick disassemble) your battery will rupture.

If you are going to buy an authentic mod with very high quality magnets then that may work.
Don't know what kind of clones you're buying to make a blanket statement like that but I've used my Hcigar Stingray X every day for close to a year with no change as far as the magnets are concerned and I can't recall anyone making a complaint about Infinity's magnets either , some may prefer more resistance and go to stronger magnets but that's a matter of personal preference .

Tha't not true. Authentic (and best-quality) battery and charger are vital if you don't want to burn your house down.
That's exactly what he just said.. ;)
