Hi everyone!

Just joined, I am looking to get into vaping. I have been a smoker for 8 years and really want to quit. I smoke a pack a day, with that being said I have a budget of 200 dollars and I'm looking to get something that fits my needs. I have done a bit of research on what to get but doing all the research on my own has become quite overwhelming. I think I figured out what I need, which is a main unit with a cardomizer and a tank. and info on what some good units are with comparable parts would be great. also looking for good suggestions on liquids, I think I would like something with a flavour more like that of a cigarette to get started.

Welcome splwj47! Glad you joined the family!
Unfortunately, I'm kinda unfamiliar with where you can get what you're looking for in the great white north, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can help you better. Until then, we can get your post count up with a little chit-chat and then you can post here for the best help you're gonna find!

Greetings splwj, welcome to the forum, and congrats on your decision to quit smoking!

Once you have 5 posts in the Newcomers forum, you can ask questions in the ECF->Canada subforum for advice about vape shops north of the border.

$200 is a more than adequate budget with which to start vaping. eGo style batteries cost next-to-nothing, but you could also look at a decent, low-cost Advanced Personal Vaporizer (APV) battery, like an Innokin MVP2 or VV V3.

I used clearomizers and rebuildable atomizers myself, so I can't make any suggestions about cartomizers, but i'm sure someone will post here with some good suggestions.

Cheers!

I was going to order everything online. I live in the boonies, so easiest way for me to get stuff.

How many post do you need before you can post in other sections of the forum?

Being overwhelmed is common for people who just start vaping. Being ripped off by shops that take advantage of your ignorance is even more common. You've come to the right place though, because you can learn everything you need to know right here and it's all free.

For a newbie who is just starting out I highly recommend sticking with an easy to use, basic starter kit with clearomizers (tanks). Eventually you'll probably want to get into more complex stuff, but it's much easier to figure out what is best for your needs after you've learned all of the basics.

There are 3 basic starter kits that I would recommend. They all work basically the same way, they all provide good vaping at low cost and are easy to maintain, and they are all cheap enough that you won't feel like you've thrown away money if you want to upgrade to something larger or more complex later.

**NOTE----- Links are for information purposes only. Some of these vendors may not ship to Canada, but this will let you know what to look for.

The most simple and easy ecig to start with in my opinion is the Halo Triton. It's about as easy as they get to use. Charge the battery, fill the tank, and that's it. Once in a while you'll have to clean or replace a coil, but that's simply a matter of unscrewing the coil and washing it really well, let it dry, and then putting it back in, or simply screwing a new one in to replace it. Tritons are not the cheapest starter kits, but they are very well built, very reliable, and work great. It's what I use the most.

Triton Tank System Starter Kits | Halo Cigs

My second recommendation would be an eGo Twist with a clearomizer. It's almost identical to the Halo in size, appearance, and the way it works. However, the eGo will have more options available as far as toppers (Clearomizers, cartomizers, cartotanks, etc...) They are still really easy to use, typically priced a little better than a Triton, and you can find parts for them virtually anywhere. They also have the advantage of being able to adjust the voltage to increase vapor production and/or improve the taste depending on your preference. (Tritons also have variable voltage batteries, but you have to buy them separately) The downside is all of those options can be overwhelming and it takes a bit of research to figure out not only what type of parts you want to use, but who makes the best ones.

Kanger EVOD Double Starter Kit

The third option would be the Innokin VV. This is very similar to the eGo in the way it works. It uses all the same toppers as the eGo does. It's variable voltage like the eGo is, it just has more options in regards to the variable voltage settings. It's still really easy to use and includes passthrough USB charging abilities so you can continue to use it while you're charging it.

$39.54 Authentic Innokin iTaste VV V3.0 Variable Volt/Watt APV Starter Kit - vv-3.0 / white at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Those really are the 3 easiest setups to start with that will be low cost, provide a lot of vapor, and are solid and reliable products. They're great starting points to let you learn what you like, don't like, and would like to change. Many people are happy using one of these exclusively and never look for anything larger or more complex.

You wont find an e-juice that tastes like a real cigarette. For equipment I would look into a MVP 2 for their long battery life to keep from getting frustrated. For a carto, its hard to say what you'll like, but a 2.0ohm should give you some flexibility. I have a J-Tank, but IBTanked tanks are highly recommended. Good luck and welcome.

One flavor I personally liked that was really close to an actual cigarette was by a company called "Buck naked" flavor was Turkish Tobacco. If you can find it I would recommend getting it.

What is the difference between a clearomizer and cartomizer? what I want is something I can put on the charger while I sleep and when i get up in the morning i will have something that is going to last the whole day. if that exists lol.

I understand that... there isn't a Brick and Mortar store within an hour of me!
You only need 5 posts, then when the server updates at the hour, you have access to most of the site. I believe that goes for the regional sub-forums as well.

PS: When I started vaping, I didn't want to hear anything about e-liquids that weren't tobacco flavour, and while I still enjoy these, they're no longer my favourite flavours.

Two tobacco-flavoured e-liquids I would happily recommend are RY4 (sold by Vaporous in Montreal) and Muskoka Blend (sold by Canvape in Toronto). If you order from Vaporous, make sure you get at least a small bottle of Frozen Grape...I never would have tried this based on the name, but a friend of mine bought some, and it's absolutely delicious.

It's funny I smoked the .... out of Marlboro menthols so when I started vape I chose menthols. Burned out my taste buds. I like wild cherry and peach lemonade too. So many flavor so little time. But the banana nut bread is freaking awesome. The MONKEY knows.

Clearomizer is a tank with a coil and wick system. The tank can last almost forever with the coil/wick being the only thing that needs to be replaced.

A cartomizer is a little cartridge filled with either a fiberous or sponge material to hold the liquid, with a heating element (atomizer) running through the center. They can be refilled but they do wear out and have to be replaced occassionally. They are also difficult if not impossible to clean, so once you put a flavor in one you're usually stuck with that flavor.

little birdhouse in your soul
I started with Smokeless Image although I have no idea if they ship to Canada.

I may be the only person to suggest this but step into vaping with an open mind. When I started, a lot of people suggested I go BIG to start like with a provari, some mod, DIY juice and all sorts of things. Everyone's motivation when they start and when they are a year in are different. Some people like to tinker with the equipment or juice and it becomes a hobby all to itself. Please don't (or anyone else) misunderstand, I am not saying that it wrong; I am just saying that you need to figure out what you want.

Personally, I don't and didn't ever get into the tobacco flavors. If the point was to quit, I didn't want anything to remind me of cigarettes. Additionally, I am horribly lazy and I don't want a new hobby so I wanted something simple. The more I vaped, the more I learned that I also don't want to keep track of 7 charging batteries and a 1 hour cleaning ritual along with another 30 minutes of filling.

I had the starter kit and then moved to buying one of everything to see what I liked and didn't. If you start with the more disposable products, this is easy to do and not a lot of cost. Buy small portions of a lot of different juices and try each before getting a larger bottle of it.

ALWAYS have a charger, an extra battery and a back-up with you if you don't want to be tempted to buy more cigarettes and keep some napkins nearby.
