I am going to buy my first e-cig. I have gleaned much information from the forum after several days of research. I have decided to go with the penstyle type for two reasons: longer battery life (less battery switching) and larger cartridges (less topping off).

With relevence to my forthcoming purchase, I need to keep in mind:

I would like to get low-bridge style atomizer because I plan on using cartridges.

I will use 100% vegetable glycerine for my vapour. I understand that it is thicker and stickier than propylene glycol. Certain models may be better suited for this, but I am not sure which.

I am uncertain if I will prefer an automatic or manual battery. I would like to try both, so I will need to purchase one of each.

I am looking for guidance on the following topics:

What are the differences between the models? I have read about the 801, 4072, BE112, 201, and 304. Are there strengths and weaknesses to these? Are model numbers linked to a specific manufacterer? Are there different retailers with different versions of each model? It appears to me after reading this forum for a while that the options must be somehow more complex than simply choosing a model number due to discussion about bridge height, number of holes in the atomizer etc. How do I know exactly what I am ordering? Which should I get?

Many of the online retailers appear shady to me. Is this the case? Which dealers are known to be reputable? Some retailers seem to have branded their version of a specific model (ex. Janty Kissbox.) Are these branded versions better/worth it?

Thanks for helping me with this... It just seems that the more I read about this the more overwhelming it becomes. I have made the decision to get one of these and stop harming myself with tobacco. I just don't want to get ripped off or make a bad purchase due to incomplete information.

Hi P-Funk,

I does indeed appear that you have been doing a lot of reading here and seem to have a very good grasp on e-cigs. The choice of a Penstyle is a good one, but it is all a matter of preference. Your desire for a low bridge should stear you to an RN4072 made by First Union.

The reason why I choose to address your question is your statement about online suppliers. You state that they "appear shady to me". I do not know why you would think that. Every Supplier on this fourm with the exception of a couple, strictly sells on line. I do not know where or what you read to make you think this, but in the year and change that I have been purchasing from many Suppliers, I have never had any issues.

Our Suppliers on this Forum are excellent and I would not hesitate using any of them. I hope this clears any misconceptions you may have.

I just wanted to add something to Sun's excellent evaluation of the online Suppliers you'll find here.

The simple fact is that many Suppliers are long-term PV owners and supporters who ended up selling them because hardly anyone else was doing it. They often wanted to get better models or better eliquids out there, or provide better deals that those prevailing (remember that ecigarettes used to be very expensive).

Because of this they tend to be committed PV owners and not great online commerce people. For example they might pick very dark color schemes for their websites that will mainly attract teen gamers and frighten off anyone else, and as some see ecigarettes as something of a cult thing at the moment, they may think that is the right way to present them.

In taking this approach, they might overlook rule #1 of ecommerce which is that you must appear credible, respectable and a good business to buy from. And rule #2, "Usability is crucial" - well, some never heard of that one!

They are 99.9% honest and hard-working, and provide an exceptionally-high standard of customer service compared to other online businesses, because it's important to them. The occasional bad apple gets found out quickly as they are so obvious.

But let's be honest, some may not win any prizes for ecommerce web design :) If anything, that is a badge of honor round here, because they aren't money-grabbing web marketers - many got into it because it was of great interest to them, not because they were affiliate marketers who will sell ecigs today, gas mileage reducers tomorrow.

Check out the Reviews of Suppliers forum, you'll find plenty of praise for many of our Suppliers.
