TL/DR: I recommend the Rose because it is an all around great tank with easy maintenance and great for starters with zero issues whatsoever.

Matt,
Depending how like your vape will help recommending tanks. If you like it with a really open draw there are a few amazing tanks now. If you like somewhat tight, so that you can lung hit with a little resistance or mouth to lung if you chose to, there are a TON of good options, picking one will be more dependent on looks/features that you prefer.

Lemo 2 - Awesome concept, some never before seen features, adjustable draw from crazy open and cloud machine like or tight if you want it tighter. Fill from the top with no tools. Cheap and great tank, looks... many find it bland.

Kayfun (any) - Classic tank that just works. Tight to medium draw depending which kayfun you get. None of them will really have super open draw though. Beware certain clones, many have juice channels cut too shallow so only support very low wattage vaping, the authentic ones should vape fine up to around 40 watts or so.

Kayfun derivatives - There are like a hundred tanks that use the basic Kayfun concept and look similar with varying degrees of functionality.

My personal favorites that I bought the authentic of (I have like 50 clones of various tanks and TBH they all suck or needed some modification to work right) -

Kayfun 3.1 - Draw too tight for me at full open. Filling is a pain in the .... Coil not accessible without dumping juice. - Sits on the shelf.

Kayfun 4 - Amazing vape. Super strong flavor, Not recommended for a person new to RTAs because it is a very over-engineered piece and can be finicky, I use it daily for desert juices.

Rose v2 - Good air flow, a little more than the Kayfun 3.1. Taste is off the hook, better than any other tank I have used (like 100+). Aside from user error it will never have wicking issues causing dry hits because of the design. A somewhat hot vape at 25-30 watts because of the way the chimney is shaped. Use it daily when I first wake up because it is such a good vape a low power.

Expromizer - Similar airflow to the Rose, perhaps a little more. This tank is my go to tank at the moment. This tank, is basically a kayfun but slightly bigger in every way. There are only two issues with it, First - you use a lot more cotton than most tanks because it wicks like nobodies business and if you use too little cotton it will leak. Second - Some people have issues with the number of rotating sections and seperating just the point where they want to. It is not expensive, and parts are available from exvape direct for low prices.

Hey, been vaping for a few months now started with the istick30w and a nautilus mini, moved on to subtank mini and I've built a few coils now seems logical to move on to a proper rta. Just looking for some advice and where would be a good place to start. All help appreciated. Peace

Well if you don't have an rda, I think you should get one.
Your experience on an rda will
1: give you a reference for taste to compare to how your tanks taste
2: make it easy to experiment with coils and adjust wicking

If you could get spare rba heads for the subtank mini, that would be convenient.

The subtank mini rba is what I've been building currently. I like. 5 ohm resistance and tend to use the subtank on the fully open airflow( I like big clouds) however I'm also a flavour chaser which is what got me thinking about making the transition. From other people I've spoke to have said the subtank is good. But proper rtas or rdas are even better

I don't have a subtank mini myself; but I do have a heavytaste modtank which is a lot like it;
I wouldn't recommend a kayfun (unless you get the 30 mm version) because - well unless it's the kayfun v4, but the earlier ones you have to worry about the seal at the top of the chimney; but aside from that, when you really look at it and similar build decks, the build deck isn't any bigger than the subtank; the subtank just made the build deck removeable/replaceable.

For something completely different you could look at the flash evapor, or the gp heron; in both of these the build deck is physically below the tank, and you can take the tank off from the build deck much like a subtank

I also favor the Rose V2 for a flavor atty but I do run mine at .7 ohms , roughly 25 watts on my mechs . It's impossible to beat for intensity of flavor but it might be a challenge for a beginning builder . Since you like an airy draw and clouds , I would suggest looking at an Aqua V2 , it also delivers intense flavor , but with dual coils and lotsa airflow it'll chuck some dense clouds if that's your thing , probably the best atty for delivering both flavor and clouds IMO . It can also be built as a dripper if you really wanna fog up the place . https://www.fasttech.com/products/1980900

Why us it that none of the rtas are aesthetically pleasing as my subtank. They just don't loom as slick
The best looking RTA IMO is the GUS Phenomenon either the Zest or the lite. They also happen to produce an amazing vape, I have 5 of them.
The 5 in the middle of this pic are GUS Phenomenons with a GUS ESTIA at either end.

I really like the subtank but some seems to think I would have a better vaping experience of a "real rta" rather than the rba in my subtank better flavour is what I'm frequently told. The flavor of my sub is far superior to that of my nautilus mini which was my starter tank

If you're happy with it, why change yet? :)

Instead, think about what features you would like in another RTA:

Airflow for direct lung hits or mouth to lung?
Glass tank, SS tank, plastic or doesn't matter?
Ability to access the deck anytime?
    Toolless filling?
    Single or dual coil?
    Size?

Answer those questions, and that can help narrow the field. Then you can begin researching and watching build videos, and choose one. There's no reason though to give up the Subtank if you like it.

I totally agree with the post above. Clearly define what you want and it can be had, all options are out there.

Regarding the Fogger. Don't do it. I ran a fogger 4 then a fogger 5 for about 6 months as my only tank. They work well but are very sensitive to amount of cotton used, the machining is garbage, the threads bind, the edges are razor sharp. This is based on 4 fogger purchased over a 6 month period, they are not up to snuff compared to newer tanks out of china.

I think the subtank (in my case, the mini) is a great tank, especially for someone new to building their own. It packs a lot of nice features that most tanks don't offer. The suggestion that it isn't a "real RTA" is a silly one that should be disregarded.
