Hello everyone! I've recently decided to purchase a kayfun Lite plus v2 ehpro clone, but I'm not sure I'm quite ready for mech mods or sub-ohms. My main APV is a Smoktech SID, my other is a MVP 2, so my main question is, do I need to get an ohm meter since I'll be using a regulated device, or should I still invest in one immediately? Also, for building a 1.9 ohm microcoil, should I use 28 or 30 kanthal? I plan on using cotton wicks, seems to be the general consensus that they're good to work with and great flavor. Any help is appreciated, thanks guys!

1: ohm meter : Need it?
Well since you are using a SID and an MVP2, they will measure your ohms for you anyway. So short answer: No.

If you do get your own multimeter (not a 510 ohmmeter), you will be able to tap measurements directly accross the two posts on the deck;
you wll also be able to measure voltage under load.

2: 28 or 30.

If you got big fingers and poor eyes, you'd be happier with 28.

OTOT
If you get the 30 or 32, you have the option to simulate thicker gauge by twisting two strands together

Thank you, that's what I figured about the SID, but I figure it's better to ask than wonder! I'm sure eventually I'll wanna move on to a mech, but I'd like to get comfortable with rebuilding first. Also, I'm a pretty tiny female, so tiny hands lol. I'm more concerned with ease of wrapping more than anything else.

I would say it's more a question of eyesight, and whether you prefer coils around 2 ohms or more like 1.5 ohms; you'll need a lot more wraps with 28ga, if you want higher resistance. Both are fairly easy to work with, but when you're up close to it, counting to make sure you've got the right number of wraps, the 28ga is much easier to see. Also, if you make microcoils, where the wraps are compressed together, it's easier with 28ga; the finer 30ga can get pushed out of shape very easily; I've messed up quite a few right at the end, just because it's so easy to misshape the 30ga.

When I first started, I thought it seemed kinda dumb to "flame" the wire first, but it really does help; it removes a lot of the SPROING! factor and helps the wire stay more or less where you put it, instead of being so lively it's like a hyperactive snake in your hands. You don't really need a torch for 28ga or 30ga, a lighter works just fine.

One more thing about an ohm meter; I am not sure how the SID and mvp measure the ohms, but on a vamo, I can measure ohms without firing full power to the coil.

On my zmax if I want to check ohms I have no choice, I have to put full power to the coil.

So if you have that option on either the SID or the mvp, then there's less need for a separate ohmmeter.
