Looking to upgrade to RDA

This will be my first post, though I've been vaping and researching for awhile now. Currently have an ecab-l that I picked up at a local shop close to a year ago and even though there is next to nothing online about them, its been a great set-up. Came with a vivi nova that I've been using and rebuilding since I got it. Only thing I've bought other than rebuild parts and juice is a joyetech atomizer I used for dripping but never liked it much, even after debridging it. Anyway, I'm looking into rda's (the octopus specifically) and I'm wondering if my housing will work. Plan to buy: hi-drain 18500 batt (atleast 15 amp draw), octopus, charger for these batteries, and a multimeter as I left mine back home. Will be wrapping to about .7 ohms, just don't know if the housing is a limiting factor on sub ohm vaping or if it's just the battery. Of course, with the FDA trying to ban e-cigs, I might want a mod for back-up in case mine dies but that's something I'll have to weigh out. So in conclusion, will my case work if I get the right battery? IMG_0804[1].jpg

Well that must be a mega-ecab because the true Joyetechs take a 10440 size battery. You should have no issues if you build a normal coil (1.8-2.2 ohm) but I do not believe it will fire with anything under 1.3 ohm. If you feel you do need to subohm (I do not recommend it) make sure you get a good quality mechanical mod (like a k100 - still reasonably priced and is telescopic to accept most 18XXX batteries

welcome to the ecf

If you want to get into RDA's, I would recommend looking into a mechanical mod. Most of the variable voltage/variable wattage mods won't fire on a coil thats lower that 1.2 ohms. I personally have the SS Magneto and I love it! I also have an Octopus…it ran terribly when I first got it, so I drilled a 1/16 air hole in the shield of it. I run it at about 1 ohm and its a freaking steam machine.

I wish I knew more about the ecab…I really don't.

My sigelei works great with anything that is above a 1.2 ohm coil, so its not that you can't use a VV mod to run an RDA, I have just found its more practical on a mechanical mod.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the welcoming and quick replies. Looks like a may get the octopus and wrap some 1.3-1.5 coils on my ecab for now and grab a mod later. Saw a vid about the octopus that mentioned drilling it out as well, definitely plan to do that. K100 looks like a good deal, thanks for the suggestion. The ecab will go to 4.2 volts if I remember right, so I can get similar watts, will the only difference be that it heats a bit slower?

spending money on a better batteries and a rda to put on the ecab would be pointless imho. its vv so it will have issues getting past 1.2ohm like mentioned above. Your best bang for your buck is a k100 or nememsis clone, I own both and both hit very hard. As far as toppers go you would need to drill out air hole on the octopus or you can simply grab a trident clone for under $20 which has adjustable air flow and hits very nice, Its what currently on my k100.

as far as batteries go the only one that has the avaialable data that shows it can handle a .7ohm safest(didn't say safely because its not always the batteries fault) would be the aw imr 18490 1100mah. other then that if upgrading your device you can also look for something that can handle 18650 batteries as they will give you the longest before charge options.
