Looks like my company has jumped on the anti-e-cig bandwagon

My workplace make the smokers go outside to a designated area, as do 99% of most jobs. When I started with a PV, I was treated like a smoker. Told to go outside. When I stepped back, looked around, and read some of the rules I found that all tobacco products are supposed to be used in a designated smoke/tobacco area. Including smokeless tobacco products. Again, I looked around. I saw lots of people dipping throughout the work place. I brought this up. I told them that if they aren't going to enforce the rules on the dippers, then they can't enforce the rules on using a PV as it is not a tobacco product. I don't go around blowing fog clouds or anything, but I control it so it's not disruptive. This is how I won my battle.

Another option, I've seen the Innokin iTaste VV. It looks like a pen sticking out of your pocket. Never seen one in person or used one, so I couldn't give any info on it other than the looks. Maybe try that and stealth vape.

Wow...so, you can have analogs but not an e-cig?? That's, for a lack of a better word, messed up!! I work at a car dealership and our owner doesn't mind ecigs at all. He would rather see everyone do that than smoke. He has a huge issue with actual smoking, but, out of 140 employees, 5 of us vape, another 30 or so smoke, and the rest don't smoke or vape. Out of respect for letting us vape in the shops, we agreed not to vape in the showroom or the offices. He agreed to that without hesitation.

I don't mind vaping away from the company of non vapers - I don't even mind standing with smokers, like old times :D

I think somewhere like an open plan office, openly vaping clouds of vapour will not be tolerated. I don't think it sounds unreasonable one bit to kindly ask vapers to vape away from others - but not necessarily outside.

Why do you think it's reasonable?
Because it might smell? Perfume and BO smells. Are we going to segregate based on smell?
Because it looks like smoking? Segregation based on looks?
Reasonable implies with good reason, so what is that good reason?

Wow, I'm kind of glad I live in the boonies now. I had major back surgery. They asked before the surgery if I would need a nicotine patch during recovery. I said, no, I brought my e-cig. I vaped throughout recovery and all the nurses were very interested in my e-cig. Loaded on morphine and then pain-killers, I felt like a celebrity, and continued to vape.

I am the office manager in a doctor's office. He chews, although you could never tell, and I vape at my desk. Geeez, living out in the sticks may not be so bad after all!

Good luck with the computer company...AND your bathroom breaks. Wow. That sucks! The pen-style e-cig might work.

Looks like I may have to go back to smoking.

Then this will be a "your job or your health" scenario.

I can't think of too many things I'd sacrafice my health for...........been there and done that.

I hope you can look around for something more suitable to your new consciousness, your health consciousness, just keep it in the front part of your intentions and start looking for something.......*better*. You deserve it because you have already embarked on the path of self-improvement by quitting the cancer sticks.

I really hope something great happens for you :)

I FOUND A LOOPHOLE!!!! This will allow me to continue to peacefully vape at my desk. Mind you, I never openly vape in public. Most people don't even know I'm vaping. Stealth vaping is second nature to me, and it's very rare you would notice anything aside from me sticking it in my mouth, and maybe the gurgle of the cartomizer. So here's what I'll say if anybody questions it. The policy states that e-cigarettes will be treated as a distraction, and the example used was somebody playing loud music at their desk that was a distraction to others. So if I don't use my e-cigarette in a distracting way, in the same way that MANY people here use headphones to listen to music, including my supervisor, then it shouldn't be a problem. YAY! problem solved! :)

I can go along with that, it makes perfect sense to me treating it as a distraction means as long as it's not a distraction. But I am biased :)

Well I'm glad you have it sorted out (kinda) .....it's your NRT - are they having other workers spit out their nicotine gum and strip searching for patches? (I think not) - at the very least you should be permitted to vape outdoors...I hate it when large companies think they own the air rights....

dude i would go nuts if i cant use my PV. that sucks.

My manager just emailed this to me:

“Use of e-cigarettes in the workplace will be treated as an annoying, disruptive behavior, similar to that of an employee playing music on his/her computer or blowing a whistle or anything else disruptive to the work and productivity of those around him/her. Corrective action for such behavior will follow the general outline for progressive disciplinary action.”

So instead of banning them as tobacco products, they'll classify me as a trouble maker. Awesome. Considering I never vape openly, always stealth vape, and don't use strong smelling liquids. Just another way to keep us down. Looks like it's back outside with the smokers.......
