Looks like my company has jumped on the anti-e-cig bandwagon

@GIMike
I sure hope they're paying you well my friend.
I worked for a company for 31 years & I only hated it for 30 1/2. LOL. But the good news is they have been paying me NOT to work for them now 11 years! Yay!!! I win...they lose!
Vape on
Hey if I keep vaping & not smoking I'll live longer & they'll have to pay me more.
Hang in there GIMike

Stockroom with a window is my spot, i don't vape at my desk. I have 6 people at work that have bought ecigs after I started. All of those people no longer take a walk to an elevator, wait, walk outside, smoke, then come back. I estimate that by just switching to vaping we are likely working an extra 2.5 hours or more collectively.

If tobacco is allowed by HR on premises I'd have no problem going to them asking for a reason you can't have your PV. What if you vaped no nic, are they banning vegetable glycerine and lithium ion batteries? Better not bring in any food or cell phones.

just take more "pee" breaks and use the stall :vapor:
I asked my supervisors if I could inside they answer was no! I work at an incoming call center so every hour I indeed need a 'pee' break. If only they realized they would get more productivity out of me if they just let it happen. I guess big corps will have their rules.

I wish I could vape at my cube. My company is extremely secure and red-tapish. Everything needs access, everything is micromanaged at some point. To smoke a cig it takes you 5 minutes to walk through the building, pass through security gates, walk about 5-700 feet in the back lot where you can smoke.

I used to take my e cig out with me and people gave me strange looks, those that smoked would just say as long as its helping it can't be bad, they were wondering how it is. But now to avoid going out there, I just vape before I get in my car to go to work, then on my way there when I am about 20 minutes from the office. I take long enough drags that keeps me off edge. After a few days, I don't go out for a vape after lunch, I can hold on until I get done work and back in my car where I can vape on my way back home. It sucks but oh well, better than getting canned and then figuring out how these school loans/bills are gonna be paid.

I'd love to take breaks more often, but we only get 6 minutes of bathroom break per day. In a building as big as this, I'm lucky to make it there and back to my desk in 3 minutes :/

I don't think that's legal. OSHA says they have to have bathrooms and you have to have access.
Of course if you want to use the bathroom to vape you wouldn't have a leg to stand on but you need to find a pregnant lady working there and have her press the issue.

"On April 6, 1998 we issued an interpretation of 1910.141(c)(1)(i), which requires employers to make toilet facilities available so that employees can use them when they need to do so."

04/06/1998 - Interpretation of 29 CFR 1910.141(c)(1)(i): Toilet Facilities

I'd be filing something with HQ about the bathroom thing.
I'd also mention how they banned e-cigs from the property while allowing cigarettes requiring you to go back to inhaling smoke making the corporation responsible.

Whoever makes the rules there needs to be fired.

By the sounds of it, you are working for a large computer company that is vested heavily in big tobacco. They want to crimp down on your vaping so you are buying analogs because of their precious investments. God forbid they should pause and think of the drain on the companies medical plan.

Good luck in this endeavor.

Personally I'd just use an e-Go at work, looks like a pen! Stealth it and don't use clearomizers, stick with old carts or cartomizers, although IME carto's are a bit noisy. Keep it in your pocket, it's not like they can strip search you. What a stupid bunch of rules. Makes me wonder which company it is so I can either quit buying their products or never buy them. :/

My manager just emailed this to me:

“Use of e-cigarettes in the workplace will be treated as an annoying, disruptive behavior, similar to that of an employee playing music on his/her computer or blowing a whistle or anything else disruptive to the work and productivity of those around him/her. Corrective action for such behavior will follow the general outline for progressive disciplinary action.”

So instead of banning them as tobacco products, they'll classify me as a trouble maker. Awesome. Considering I never vape openly, always stealth vape, and don't use strong smelling liquids. Just another way to keep us down. Looks like it's back outside with the smokers.......

It's the jealousy thing as mentioned in another post.

They're jealous you're doing what they think they can't do.

Good luck, and thanking the sparkling skies I don't have to deal with that any longer.

Wow. PA allows unemployment if you, yourself, quit a job?!?! Must be the only state that allows it.

It all depends on the circumstances. In these circumstances the person had the days to use, was in the middle of a medical procedure and was threatened with termination. I think any state would allow it in this instance.

As a common courtesy I would Vape outside since the assumption to everyone else is "you're smoking". So outside I go.

I wouldn't have a problem with that if it was allowed on company property. That's still up in the air until my manager gets clarification. She submitted that HR request for me. This type of comment is becoming more and more common these days. I remember that at one point in time on this forum, we were all fighting for our right to vape. Now we just seem to be fine with being considered smokers. I wonder what happened to turn everything around?

I don't personally consider vaping a right. it isn't needed for survival (my sanity maybe) so I dont feel entitled to do it anywhere I please. I do often vape in public but pick the times to do so. Billows of vapor while safe to those around me can be distracting and misconstrued. However in the workplace if your allowing tobacco and singling out my hobby/habit I take issue.

I get that people want others to understand and embrace vaping as I love it myself. I think we have to temper our zeal for the subject and look at it realistically. Have I read hours and hours of info on vaping? Yes I have, should I assume everyone else has and expect them to just accept my word for it? Over time I hope the rational information, personal testimonies, and benefits people see with their loved ones outshines negative press and misinformation. I dont think shoving it in a persons face and saying "this is what I do too bad" helps the cause.

Does a company have a right to single out vaping? No, but they do have a right to ban nicotine from the premises. All that being said, its still a personal choice and I'd have a hard time working for a company that micro managed my time / lifestyle like yours appears to be.

I still think pursuing this through HR is your best route followed up by scientific information available from CASSA. I wish you the best of luck and hope you are able to cast a positive light on vaping.

(Just my personal thoughts, and if you ask my wife she will tell you I'm normally wrong).

Well I still clarify that it is not Smoking in the first place. There is no Fire, no source of Ignition, and not some forty billion other chemicals getting nto your lungs. Chemicals, mind you, that the FDA has allowed Big Tobacco companies to place into their Cigarettes.

For instance why do they put saltpeter into Cigarettes. They do this just so you finish up smoking that ONE cigarette and you light up a second cigarette, will call that one number TWO.
