On Tuesday, March 4, 2014 the Los Angeles City Council voted 14-0 to ban the use of e-cigs in public. They voted to ban e-cigs despite having NO credible scientific or medical studies regarding harm.

Now, in L.A., where I have lived for 26 years, vaping in public will a crime. Now, in L.A., e-cig users will be treated, and shunned, just like the smokers we're not!

The e-cig ban. Now in Los Angeles. Coming soon to a city near you!

That sounds terrible. Is it also a crime to smoke cigarettes in public? How about in your car?

As expected, the Los Angeles City Council today voted unanimously to ban vaping everywhere that smoking is banned, including indoor workplaces and outdoor locations such as parks, beaches, and restaurant patios. Although one of the main rationales for the ban is that children might confuse e-cigarettes with the real thing and mistakenly conclude that smoking is not so bad after all, an amendment that would have exempted bars and other establishments that are open only to adults was defeated by a vote of 8 to 6. In a generous concession, the city will allow people to vape in vaping lounges, in e-cigarette stores, and on stage for “theatrical purposes.”

here's some info

Was there ever an opportunity to Vaping Community to protest or make case against this?

Los Angeles has been in the yellow "Urgent Calls to Action" banner at the top of every ECF page for weeks. The banner lists cities, counties and states with up-coming propositions and a link to CASAA for more information.

I no longer live in Los Angeles, but I was born there and lived in a beach town most of my life. Smoking was originally banned on beaches because of cigarette butts being littered everywhere, not second-hand smoke. I can't fathom how they can justify banning e-cigs in an open space.

Hey guys - read the post from Kurrpt Senate - Kurrpt is correct. Ecigs are banned only in public places where smoking cigarettes is already banned. They are not illegal period in public.

"The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday approved sweeping new regulations that would treat e-cigarettes like conventional cigarettes, after one of the most personal debates to be heard on the council floor in years.

On a 14-0 vote, lawmakers outlawed "vaping" -- the practice of inhaling the vapors produced by e-cigarettes -- in most work sites and many public places, including parks and certain beaches.

Lawmakers voted to continue allowing e-cigarette use in so-called vaping lounges, where patrons can try the various e-juices that are loaded into the battery-powered devices. "
