Lost Noob...

Whats up guys, new guy here. So a little background. I am not a heavy smoker, usually only smoke 2-4 analogs a day. Of course socially will have me put away a full pack in a night. A couple of weeks ago I tried a Blu disposable, and after buying two of them I went ahead and bought the Blu kit from Walgreens. I prefer vaping, and will not be going back to analogs ever. However Im already feeling the need for something more than my Blus, as they don't last long at all and I would prefer more of a variety. Besides, technology fascinates me. A friend of mine from Texas introduced me to all of this a few weeks ago when he let me try his Ego with a tank on top (I think it was an Evod, not sure). So I feel like I'm ready to take the next step, but I can promise that browsing the forums is nothing short of overwhelming for a newcomer! So what I'm trying to do is stay somewhat in a budget, as blowing a few hundred all at once will have the wife nothing short of ...... at me. I figured to start I should go with some kind of ego kit, kinda like this one: $20.07 EGO-EVOD 6-in-1 Rechargeable 900mAh Electronic Cigarettes Set - double e-cigarette / champagne + black / 2.6

I feel like an ego setup would be better for when I am out an need something smaller, and then possibly get a Segelei Zmax or a iHybrid Pure for home for when I want to show off a little (the idea of building coils does not scare me, as I am familiar with electronics)

Is that ego kit a good start with the evods, or should I be looking elsewhere? Or should I just go ahead and skip the Ego setup and get a mod with some assorted attachments?

Welcome!

I started off with an Ego-C Twist, some Boge Cartos, and a Smoktech Mini Vivi Nova tank awhile back, and I was satisfied with it for my first vaporizer set up. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to replace (in terms of the Mini Vivi Nova).

Personally, I would start off right now with still an Ego-C Twist or an Ego-V (passthrough charging, easy to read screen), rather than a fixed voltage model. A little bit more flexibility, still nice and compact.

Starting off, tanks in general are a personal preference, I like the EVOD, Kanger MT3, Kanger T3. You will run into different levels of leaking or dry hits between most clearomizers to be quite honest, but with time you will become more able to recognize, diagnose, fix, and then prevent those problems.

I eventually upgraded to a VAMO, which I still have to this day, it's a rock solid device. It's not a gigantic cost leap, in my opinion, and it is a winner for bang for buck quality.

Further on the road you may want to consider mechanical mods and RBAs if you are into the hands on tinkering. Right now my everyday rider is a Pinoy mechanical mod, the Launcher V2 and a dual coil Chimbus built to .2 ohms (I know I know I know, pretty dangerous, but I make sure all the precautions are taken. MNKE batteries only, never drops below 3.6 before I switch them out, and I never ever push it so it's so hot). I believe that setup would cost you around 200 dollars, more or less, including shipping.

That's a reasonable starter, although you might want to look over their site for a variable voltage kit. VV gives you a lot more versatility in being able to fine tune your vape for different top ends, different resistance, and different juices.

Evods are good, reliable top ends - and you might consider getting some extra heads for them when you make your purchase. Coming from China, be prepared for a couple of weeks wait.

Welcome to ECF!

I started off with a similar kit that you posted the link to. It got me off the analogs instantly so I cant knock it for that, but I out grew it quite quickly. Like evryone else said look into VV...I always recommended Vision Spinners + Kanger T3's to everyone who ask what they should start out with. Although Ive moved on to "bigger and better" mods I still keep my spinners in the rotation :)

Hi and welcome to ECF. Here's some VV batts on sale. Also need a charger (about $5.00) and juice delivery syatem (holds and vaporizes the juice). They're basically the same as the Spinners which I own and are made by a large and reputable company.
Don't forget the discount code at bottom:
Vapor Joes - Daily Vaping Deals: LOWER: Smoktech Winder VV Ego 900mAh - $16.14

Regardless of heavy or light former smoker, Congrats on getting of the analogs! I did the Blu thing myself. Some folks keep the thing as an emergency back up but, Walgreens got mine back within 2 weeks. The returned funds going to vaping supplies. The SmokTech Winder VV batts that Vapor eyes linked to are good batts , IMHO. Adjustable from 3.2 - 4.8V, the marking are alot easier to read than other ego types I've been shown. I'm not a super heavy vaper but not a light one either & this batt lasts me about a week between charges. An Evod would be a good delivery device, I like the one I have. I think you might be happy with a setup like this as a start. I know I am.

Welcome to the forum. I think that is a decent kit. You should have good success with it. I have an ego with an evod that I use when I'm out and about and it is a nice combination. Keep in mind later you will experiment more but that would start you off very nice and comfortable. I use Vivi Novas also. Alot like the bottom coils like evod, and you may also. They put off alot of vapor but to me a muted flavor. They don't leak and are easy to use. The flavor isn't bad though so I'd go for it! Like I said, some like them more than a top coil so everyone has different preferences.

Definitely go with the spinner/twist variable voltage batts! Different juices will taste better at different voltages, also the spinners seem to regulate the voltage better than regular ego's (meaning they won't fire "too hot" fresh of f the charger, and won't drop off as dramatically as the charge dies). AltSmoke is a great vendor based in OH. They have the spinners and evods (another great choice IMO), but not in a kit. You might have to type "spinner" and "evod" in their search bar to find them quickly. AltSmoke sells quality stuff, and has great CS! The NicQuid juice they sell there is very tasty too, and pre-made (some other juice vendors mix each bottle as you order. That's typically how I buy my juice, but sometimes you have to wait a long time to get it because of the made-to-order. I'm thinking of straight switching to NicQuid just cause I know once I order it ill have it in 3/4 days).

Welcome to the forum, I agree with everyone else...... I would go with any of the variable voltage batteries, when it comes to clearomizers or tanks, I find them to be really subjective everyone seems to have their favorites but the Evod or Viva Nova's are good choices. I suggest you order your nic juice in sample sizes or a smaller bottle until you get an idea of what you like. Congrats on giving up smoking and enjoy your vape!

So, I guess I got pulled in. Just pulled the trigger on a sigelei zmax telescope. Ordered it from Vaportek, the price was just too good to pass up, and I figured I would be upgrading from the Ego batteries eventually, so... Now I need everything else lol. Where are good places to get batteries and a charger, and what do you guys recommend for the top of this beautiful mod? Should I still try the evods, or go with something else?

In my experience,,,,,,and this is ONLY my experience, so take it for what it's worth,,,,,,,YMMV,,,

Evods are wonderful,,,,,,,,,,,but fiddly and take some time getting used to (what ohms heads do you like best? What volts is best for your head? do you like warmer or colder vape?? is it TOO warm or TOO cold for your volts?),,,,

so do yourself a favor and order a 5 pack of cartos,,,,,,just to get you over those times you may want to heave the EVOD at the wall,,,,,,or,,,god forbid,,,,,,your favorite juice cracks every EVOD you own. (may this never happen to you!)

it never hurts to have a couple cartos put away for emergency. They are simple, easy, quick, rarely cause problems,,,,,,,,,and probably the easiest for beginners.

I do agree with CommaHolly. Cartomizers are dependable and easy for new Vapers. The best ones for flavor and longevity that I've tried are these SMOKTECH BLACK C.C.V. LR 1.7 OHM XL CARTOMISERS (THE RESURRECTOR) and he has free shipping. I still keep at least one pack of these around and periodically give them out to new Vapers to start off with. They aren't pretty but solid. But they are 1.7 ohms so i wouldnt go over 4 volts with them. Mostly I love Vivi Novas and have been rebuilding the coils. But everyone loves different so you will need to experiment, but yea, get a pack of cartomizers to have on hand in case you get in a bind and whatever clearomizers you are tying are giving you troubles.

If your looking for something "smaller", I would suggest a 400mah or 650mah Ego/Vision Spinner for the variable voltage... http://www.madvapes.com/vision-ego-spinner-400mah-variable-volt-battery-black.html

An excellent starting kit I believe. Backups are important though because you can't get our gear at the corner store if something does go wrong, or even if you forget to charge a battery. You'll hear that rule number 1 is backups, backups, backups a lot. All I can say is that I'm prepared. So if you do get a backup and some juice, you're really looking at more like $50, or more, depending on juice searching. The stick batteries like the one you have in mind make excellent backups for when (and if) you decide later on an APV/mod. There are several very good choices on the market. If you read a few reviews, you'll soon discover that Fasttech, a Hong Kong distributor, has phenomenal prices and about a 14 day delivery period (mine averaged 11 days). They have a very large selection of both authentic and knock off clone devices. I can give you some links to the most popular stick batts out there and one of the more popular kits, but you still need to shop carefully:

Stick Batteries, known as eGo Style Batteries (entry level, backup, out and about, stealth, primary):

Trusted Vendors shown, but NOT selected based on pricing, you'll still need to shop around. You will need device specific battery chargers (which often come in kits) for these devices. Also, kits often provide two batteries allowing for simultaneous vaping while charging of the backup. Each of the eGo style batteries below have both 510 and eGo thread connections. As such, they are compatible with most toppers, including most Kanger products. Additionally, each of these devices has at least variable voltage, which allows you to adjust and regulate the battery output voltage, providing customizable vapor production, temperature, throat hit, and finding the "sweet spot" for your juices to suit your individual vaping preferences:

1. Innokin iTaste 3.0 vv/vw, usb passthrough, ohms reader, etc. - https://ivape.net/index.php/iTaste-VV-3.0-Variable-Wattage-Device-Pearl-Chrome.html (variable power, LCD display, +/- buttons, Usb passthrough, 3.3 - 5.0 volts, 6.0 - 11.0 watts, 800mAh)
2. SLB KGO VV - http://www.hoosierecig.com/Mega-KGO-VV-1200mAh-3-6v-_p_441.html (LCD display, +/- buttons, Usb passthrough, 3.0 - 6.0 volts, 650 - 1200mAh)
3. Vision Spinner - Vision Spinner VV eGo Battery 1300mAh (3.3 - 4.8 volts, 1300mAh)
4. Joyetech Twist - eGo Twist 1000 Mah Battery in Black (3.2 - 4.8 volts, 650 - 1000mAh)
5. Smoktech Winder - Smok eGo Winder 900mAh Variable Volt Battery (3.2 - 4.8 volts, 900 - 1100mAh)

Best Starter Combo kit out there, imho, provides two batteries, i.e., the twist and/or spinner, and two toppers, i.e., the eVod and/or MT3s, among others: http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm.

Recommend one eVod and one MT3s topper with one Spinner and one Twist to start. This way you get four different products with the kit and allowing you to experience four different setups, as you figure out your preferences and what works best for you. BTW, you can spend less and get a fixed voltage battery, but you'll have much less vape flexibility and it won't be long before you'll want to upgrade to variable voltage, more than likely, and the difference initially is only a few dollars per battery anyway.

Anyway, I am not trying to overwhelm you, but these are probably the most popular ego style starting batts and toppers out there now. And since these are all US vendors, you can get faster shipping from them, or lower pricing from Fasttech. Anyway, welcome aboard, happy shopping and Vape On!

As far as batts, I prefer the AW IMR red 18650 batts. Whatever batts you get, maybe get at least 3 to start, with a charger. Later another backup charger cause all things do break and like others said, backup backup backup. A trust fire charger is fine to start at about $11. Most vendors sell this stuff if you google it. If you need a link, let us know. Also, get a couple drip tips if you do get cartomizers. You will need 510 drip tips.

He said he ordered a ZMax. Lol. Now he's trying to decide what to use on top.

Well, maybe someone else will find it useful  . Obviously, I was responding to his original thread topic and post and missed that he ordered the Zmax....lol. Guess he's not a lost noob any longer! Appreciate you pointing that out, love looking like an idiot. Quite fond of it actually, particularly when I succeed so well. I'm going to increase my nic right now. Gotta Vape. Catch you later. Ciao! :vapor:
