Hi,

I recently received my greensmoke kit. However I am terrified of using it. :p

I smoke about 15 king size cigarettes a day. I want to use greensmoke to cut down and eventually quit smoking tobacco. I have been smoking for around 7 years.

I am schizophrenic, and am on medication for it. I am also on anti-acid prescription medication.

I have a few questions about e cigarettes...

What is the deal with Propylene Glycol? I have read a little bit about it. Ive read that it is in tobacco cigarettes and smoke machines? What else?

What else is in e cigarettes? Does it differ in different e cigarette companies?

Will I have an adverse reaction to PG? Or have I already been exposed to it by smoking tobacco?

I realize that e cigarettes are safer than tobacco, but I just don't want to have an allergic reaction or something. I am not allergic to anything that I know of.

I've also heard that some cartridges leak nicotine in your mouth. Is it possible to OD on nicotine this way? What do you do if this happens? Water and spit?

Someone please convince me I will be OK if I try it, lol

Hi Fizex...I'm very new too and just started 4 days ago. I can't answer all of your questions, I know the great folks here will be along soon to help, but I can add my 2 cents with my brief experience.
I am also on an anti-depressant, and find that the vaping actually has helped me...I feel generally calmer, and much less anxious then on regular cigs. No reactions with the medication. I also am using PG based liquids...and am allergic to ALOT of things....I have asthma and am allergic to perfumes, flowers, trees, pollen, you name it. No problems with allergies to the PG that I can tell so far. I have used my inhaler as normal....like I did before vaping.
This just feels right and using my best judgment based on all the reading I have done about it, is SO much better for me than the analogs....good luck!!

Ecigs juice has PG, nic and what ever flavors, that are in the ones you buy.

The FDA has said PG is harmless unless you have a reaction to it, not that many people will have a reaction though. PG is used in many things like food, hand cream, lotion the list goes on and on.

The nic we already know is not good for people, but way less harmful then smoking tobacco chems that is for sure. The flavors have many different things, that you can't really say what is bad or good for you. Eating or drinking flavors, is one thing but with ecigs they are vap into lungs.

One should use some care when picking flavors, plus keep in mind anything that could mess with your meds, I get tobacco flavor as it got tobacco juice in it. I also like Ryn#4 but will likely stay mostly with known, safer flavors that are 100% natural and will start making my own flavors.

I asked my family DR and he said it was fine, and that I could even use the high nic for a while, I also asked my other DR and he also said it was fine. It's safer then smoking tobacco, and most DR see it as a way to get off tobacco then ecigs. So it's no where as bad as smoking tobacco, but still not good for people because the nic.

So when looking at ecigs and the juice, the biggest worry you have is the nic, and if you want to use ecigs to stop smoking tobacco. Then it is much better then tobacco, and is much safer then not stopping tobacco, just remember nic by another name is still nic. Just a different way to get it, and much safer then all the chems in tobacco.

You will be OK.

I think we've all gotten a bit of nicotine liquid in the mouth before. A drop or two won't hurt you; you can rinse your mouth if you like.
If you really overdo it with vaping (again something most of us have done some time!), you might notice some symptoms of nicotine overuse (racing heart, jumpy feeling, perhaps a headache or anxiety). But it's easy to stop vaping once you feel that way, and long before true nicotine OD occurs.

As others have said, propylene glycol is in many things we consume or use. There's only a tiny chance (maybe 2% or less) that you have any intolerance to PG, and if you do, it won't hurt you -- you'll just find you have an unpleasant reaction to it (some swelling or irritation) and can switch to vegetable glycerin (VG) based juices instead.

If you get a slightly sore throat, that's mostly because PG and VG are drying (they're humectants, meaning they draw moisture from the air) -- so drink more fluids and you'll be fine. As many of us quit smoking, we also experienced odd symptoms like headaches or tiredness -- that's mostly the body adjusting to a lack of cigarettes. These will pass over a couple of weeks.

Nicotine and cigarettes reduce the effectiveness of several medications, but if you're already a smoker then you've probably had your dosages adjusted appropriately to make up for that effect. (On meds myself, so I've done as much reading as I can on interactions. If you have any questions feel free to message me too.)

Keep us posted on how it goes, and welcome!

Thanks for the replies,

What exactly would swell on my body? My tongue?

This whole PG thing is bugging me.

I'm really trying to tell if I have been exposed to it(PG) before by smoking tobacco. I don't know if there is a difference between American and Canadian tobacco.

I bought my e cigarette through greensmoke. I don't think they offer VG?

I may consult my doctor just to be extra sure.

I think I will try it for the first time on the weekend, as if something happens it wont be at University.

Thanks for all replies.

Near a beach in a desert.
PG acts as a humectant in tabaccos and it is used in tabaccos around the world to keep them moist. PG is also used in almost everything like handsoaps, food, coffee filters, even some foods you eat, you name it and you've no doubt eaten it, breathed it, and maybe even had it injected directly into your veins(some medicines actually have it in them). Yes it is safe.
