so I tried my hand at rebuilding. I did cheat a little with pre made coils that are .5 ohms as my hands cramp really bad and wasn't sure how much I could do going all in with making my own coils. This is on a Kanger mini rba. Anyway, itturned out looking ok but when I fired it, I get a loud popping sound no matter the wattage. I googled it and all I could find was maybe I didn't use enough cotton. Any suggestions or thoughts?

There are LOTS of cause of popping from too much to too little wick, too much and too little power, too much and too little juice. too much and too little air, too much too little wire. Simply put if it pops one or more attributes of the build are out of whack. Fact is ALL atomizers can and will pop, some are just more sensitive.

I think I cut it at the right width to thread it through the coil but may have cut it too short on each side. I think I had it the right length at first but then when I went to put the sleeve or whatever it's called over it, it wouldn't go down bc of the cotton so I cut it a little on each side. So in order to not cut it any shorter any suggestions on how to get that sleeve down around the cotton? I hope what I'm askin makes sense. It's hard to say what I'm thinking lol

Trial and error I'm assuming.

From memory i started out pulling the wick ends up, threading them through the chimney sleeve and then cutting them off ...make life easy on yourself!

When in doubt, type wick (or rebuild) <insert name of tank here> into youtube

Ill give you a free one:

Its probably the one i first got the method from :)

coils make popping noises, it's pretty standard for all RBT's. Kanger tanks pop a lot. I wouldn't worry about it as it isn't a shorting-out issue, & if you arent getting dry hits, and you ARE getting good flavor & vaapor production, DONT mess with it.... unless it bothers you. if it doesnt bother you & the vape quality is good, don't touch it, it'll continue to satisfy you into the future. Vaping on it for an extended period of time MAY fix the problem, as the coils become more & more covered in juice residue. :)

ENJOY it, and ENJOY your vape journey!

Flavor and vapor production were there, just the loud pop was a little unsettling lol
I have noticed even with the stock coils that they pop somewhat when new but quiet down a little after extended use.

I get my cotton at Walmart. But then I use cotton balls. Yes i boil it. I boil the fancy Japanese cotton also. Because I think boiled and dried cotton wicks and performs better.

So just cotton balls from Wal mart work? Boil and dry them? Never heard that before. But I am a newbie (2months in) so I'm learning something new everyday. I love knowledge and definitely try to educate myself on what I'm doing.

Cotton is cotton... In my opinion.. The only difference is how it is prepared.
Many find the pads easier to work with. Mainly I think, because it is easier to measure padded cotton vs a ball. Most of the Vaping cotton is not chemically treated or treated in such a way as to limit transfer from vaping. It's also not rolled up into a ball. Cotton balls are mostly bleached with chlorine or peroxide. So if you do use the balls you must boil to remove the residual. Won't hurt you but can taste bad. BUT, I find that even with untreated cotton boiling improves absorption.

i just use whatever cotton i find, and i DONT boil. i usually use "Peaches N Cream" cotton yarn, that i bought from walmart. it has a small cult following here on ECF as a favorite wicking material. It's the perfect circumference for my style coil build. i highly recommend it. i dont personally boil. idgaf if u want to, but i dont.

enjoy!

As far as popping the only 2 "causes" I've come across is either not enough wick or water in juice. Not enought wick causes air pockets and eventualy they heat up with liquid and "pop", it's like opening a can of soda it's just releasing pressure in the wick. Water in ejuice causes it to due to thinning the liquid alot, the boiling point drops and causes "violent sputers" similar to putting a lid on a pot of boiling water pressure is escaping out the wick.

Pops are rareish but a Slight crackling happens with every atomizer as it's heating the liquid.

I found "sugar n cream" cotton yarn at Wal mart. Is it the same as your reference? How many strands would you use to build with?

i personally use just 1 strand, but I use 30g kanthal and I build with my CW-25 LT-Infinity Coil-Master (with the #1 gauge jig) it's a small jig & small wire gauge... I like conserving my juice while maximizing vapor production. My micro-coils are small in circumference but they pack a punch. I'd guess 2 strands would be fine for a 26g build with slightly larger circumference coil.

I'm not positive, but I believe we came to the conclusion, as a community, that the sugar N cream cotton was not the same as peaches n cream. I'm guessing the sugar n cream is bleached? where-as the peaches n cream yarn from walmart is 100% natural cotton, non-bleached. try and find the peaches n cream, it's a great bang for your buck and the diameter/circumference is perfect for a lot of our builds!

So I did see some peaches n cream cotton yarn at Wal mart. Is there anywhere I can read or watch a video on the technique of using this for a wick? I'd love to know how you do this...
