What book opens with the line, "Call me Ishmael?" The author wrote one of my favorite short stories, "Bartleby the Scrivener: A Story of Wall-street."

afternoon, beach. Smoking some baby back ribs for dinner tonight with a few friends and then off to the Irish Pub later tonight.

Happy Friday........... it's almost 5pm.:)

Hey Pepper. :) I like all kinds of music too. What do you mean by not in the same place? :?:

sorry. lol I sometimes expect people to understand my lingo... that sentence wouldn't have passed with my English teacher. different music for different venues. I wouldn't want to go out to dinner a 3 star Michelin restaurant and listen to ac/dc, nor would I want to go to a biker bar and listen to Mozart.:)

Thanks for the title. I had to google the story. Melville seems an expert on obsession. Enjoy your ribs and pub. :)

thanks, jag. Just love Melville. If you get a chance, read Bartleby, the Scrivener.... of course, you could always say, "I would prefer not to." lol --you have to read the story to appreciate that line.

Time to eat. will try to get by before heading out tonight to see what everyone is up to. Ciao!

They fired the guy in charge of designing Windows 8. Ballmer was always a joke. Gates should have never left him in charge, IMHO.

Windows 8.1: Microsoft

CU later...

Heard there is a fix out now. I'm just glad I don't have 8.

Shopping done. Brought home two Whoppers for supper. I couldn't help it, they were on sale. : D

Will be mostly lurking for a bit.

Hi Beach!

I read Bartleby for the first time about 5 years ago - can barely remember it but remember that line!

Home and burgers are on the grill, tomatoes and onions sliced, lettuce ready to go. Hungry!

I did an intake on a one day old kitten today. Tiny, tiny baby. Still has his little umbilical cord attachment. The little brother was even smaller and was killed by ants. This one also looks to be a boy... back to frequent feedings.... Sounds like a pain but as much as I am up it shouldn't be too bad. Pic when I get a chance...

quiet at the beach for a Friday night. Sun, enjoy the burgers.

Pokey, 2nd reference to Melville today? hmmm....I would like to comment, but 'I would prefer not to.' :D

heading to the irish pub a little later, but I can't help myself and i'm going for a run. After filling myself with those ribs, i'm a little stuffed. (need some room for the beer:D) They came out awesome... fall off the bone and juicy as could be.

Have a great evening all.:)

They put out a bad product, yet again. Congrats on surviving Wally World.

I "likeyed" it but I don't get it  :?:
Don't 'splain it, either; it probably won't help

A (Non-ECF) friend on FB quoted Melville this morning:

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.

Just an odd coincidence...

Ah, Bartleby! Ah, humanity!

OK, done with this for now. Back to your regularly scheduled programming...................

Ok, I think I am following your thought process here...

Captain Ahab (Gregory Peck) is searching for Moby Richard; Tard (Tardar Sauce) has found/caught Nemo...
Tink and Tard are intertwined.

I'm close, aren't I? Just pretend I am for the sake of the thread.

They don't call me Pokey for nuthin', y'know?
