I got the futon for only $50 bc there was 'damage'. One of the metal railings, near a screw hole, had bent and a piece of the metal was sticking up. It didn't look too bad. And, it was only $50. Soooo I guess when we put it in the truck, it must have broken all the way through. And the other side bent (I guess bc of the torque from when the first side broke).

Having to get a welder sounds like it might be cheaper, or at least better (if not both), to just get a new one. If parts of the metal are bent, then straightening them will probably weaken them even more (from bending a 2nd time), so that even though they are welded, they'll still be weak. They were likely already both broken, and that's why they sold it. Too bad, but these are the CL stories I've heard.
One of my BILs bought an enclosed sauna off CL. The price was great, but Packing plus S&H was very high, and it turned out that it was broken. It had several electrical problems that had to be fixed.
So, there is a welder close (well, sorta close) and their web page says "if you can break it, we can fix it"

No, they weren't broken. I looked at it before I bought it.
