Our number is too and we get them all the time. Irritates the crap out of me.

Nothing is ever done if they ignore the Do Not Call list so many are ignoring it.

They have ways of blocking the real number they are calling from, too, so even reporting them doesn't work anymore.

That is an option. Could turn off all the ringers and let the answering machine get the calls (in case anybody called that I needed/wanted to hear from). However, it would be nice to save that ~$65/mo if we could get rid of the land line all together.

Right now the land line is only costing us $10.00 a month which is why we still have it.

I hear you....we are on the do not call list too, and I get anywhere from 5 to 7 calls a day. I never answer the solicitors because of caller i.d., but it is a pain to be doing something and being interrupted just to run to the phone to ignore it.

Exactly!

Don't you have to report every single one tho'?
Seems like that alone would drive you nuts

It would be worth it if they got in trouble (heavy fines) for it. But a lot of them come up "unknown caller" now :sneaky:

$65/mo is a lot for a phone. I get mine through the cable company for less than $20/mo. It would be $20, but packaged with my Internet, I get a nice break on both. Internet was about $60 by itself, and I'm getting both for about $61 now.

Maybe you should speak with the alarm company to see about other options.

This is true....there are a lot of deals out there now for land line phones...ours is $25 and that includes all long distance calls. We keep it because of hubs' clients....sometimes they call here with after hours coverage questions, or claims problems.

If we get a computer generated call there is no one to tell not to call anymore and to take us off their calling list.

Often it is a computer that calls you (a recorded message). Can't tell them not to call back

Yeah, I let about 90% of calls go to the answering machine. If I don't recognize the number, and caller ID shows nothing pertinent, I don't answer.

Also, if you have any dealings with a company, the "do not call list" does not apply to them. For example, I have donated to charities and they call all the time. DH gives blood and I was getting calls ALL THE TIME from the American Red Cross. I finally called them and told them to take us off their list.
