As I've made my way through vape world I have found that I get pretty amped up when i try something new. I currently use my kayfun like devices for most of the day then use one of my mech's with various drippers when I get home at night.

I'm looking for a new challenge and vaping experience and am thinking of fooling around with a Genisis atty. I've watched a bunch of videos and read many of the Genisis threads on ECF. Love to hear some reccomendations for Gennys from those experienced in that area along with the reasons they like the atty's they recommend.

There seem to be at least two schools of thought on how to build them. Sounds like most people like to use SS Mesh and wire while others like to build microcoils and use cotton as wicking material. Other than the fact that the SS wire lasts so much longer what are teh pros and cons of each method?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

My suggestion: If you're going to go with gennies, learn to use mesh. It's the way they were intended to be set up. The learning curve is a little steep, compared to drippers, Kayfuns, etc. But well worth the time. I do a lot of dripping, and love it. But I'll never stop using my mesh gennies. My current favorite is the Kraken. But I have and use several 'old school' gennies as well, like the AC9, DID, Cobra, Bliss.

I've got a few Gennies in my collection :

Aga t2.
RSST (3 of them)
Kraken.
iAtty.

Started off with micro coil and cotton builds (after trying mesh without success). Gave good results, but wouldn't replace my Kayfun type attys. Then moved on to SS rope with a cotton sheath and micro coil - the cotton sheath was used instead of mesh to insulate the rope from the coil. This method gave superb flavour and vapour, but I had to tilt to keep up with chain vaping, plus it was a bit of a pain to set up. I'm now onto Rayon wicks with micro coils - this for me is a real game changer. When set up right, I think it's as good as a dripper. Flavour is off the scale, almost like drinking the juice. I can ramp up the power too on rayon and it just keeps on getting better. Maximum wattage on all my regulated mods, I'm even thinking about lowering my nic level a little.

I have modded my Gennies though, opening up the airholes on the RSST's, iAtty and aga - the Kraken is the only one with standard airflow. Also with the rayon, I don't get any seepage at all through the airholes, like I did sometimes with cotton.

Hope that helps :D

I've been using rayon in all my attys for a month or so. It is the best wicking material i have used. Seems like i would still like to try ss rope a time or two though

I'll be honest, I thought that the SS rope was the best wicking material ever in a Genny, until I tried Rayon. No need to tilt with rayon, you can chain vape on rayon. It takes loads of power, 8 watts on SS rope, 14 or 15 watts on rayon.

I've got a rayon cloud in one of my RRST's with dual nano coils and a single rayon feeder wick into the tank, it never gets dry.

Mundy's magic ribbon coil with rayon wick in the iAtty.

Dual micro coils, with yes you guessed it, rayon wicks in the Kraken.

With the versatility of rayon, I don't bother using cotton, silica or SS rope anymore :D

Thanks for the input trouble. Have any opinion on the kraken clones vs the authentic? I normally dont go the clone route but the real one isnt in my current vape budget or so my wife tells me!0

Confession time, 75% of my toys are clones

I'm really impressed with the Kraken clone. A mate on here sent it to me, cos he prefers his Kayfuns now.

It's pretty easy to build on, with dual or single coils. Plenty of airflow and has decent O-rings as standard. It's about the only Genny that I haven't had to drill out the airflow on. No idea how it stacks up to the original. The only slight downside for me is the smallish capacity compared to say the aga. But it does look great on most mods I've tried it on. I'd recommend it.

Re the Wife, I just don't tell mine how much I spend. As my Dad used to say "what the Wife doesn't know about, can't be used in the Divorce Court"

I agree with Rule62 about learning to build a simple SS mesh wick. I'm a bit of a purist, I guess. And, honestly, I don't think a proper build on a Genny is THAT difficult, with a little patience.

If you want to keep it simple & relatively inexpensive, you might try a ZAU. I haven't looked lately, but Electonicstix used to sell them for about $130. I see them used on the Classies fairly often, too.

It has a large deck & comes with insulators for the wick hole. Single coil configuration. Not real fancy but super easy & comes with a large enough air hole that I can't imagine you'd want or need to drill out....

I agree on using SS mesh. I used Genis exclusively for over a year and mesh, IMO, gave the best flavor.

My absolute favorite is the DID from MMV. It's built like a tank, has a large wick hole and has a small chamber for great flavor.

So have you switched away from Gennys? If so may i ask what you are vaping these days?

I agree about the DID. Great genny. It's definitely 'old school'. Single large wick hole. Screw on cap, with the air hole lining up perfectly with the wick.

Yes, i am only using REOs with bottom fed RDAs.

I got my first REO in April of this year and fell in love. I carry my PV with me all the time and the REO is perfect for pocket carry, it doesnt leak (unless I get too crazy with squonking), it has 6 ml of juice on board which will last me most of the day, it hits hard every time, the flavor and vapor are unbelievable and it doesnt fall over every time I look at it.

After getting the first, I sold most everything else and have 3 more REO Grands for a total of 4.

I kept 1 DID though. I haven't used it in a long time but its what I learned to build on.

You know i keep telling myself that i need to get one. Now that there is a sub ohm option i really have to pull the trigger. Guess i'm afraid that all my current gear will be put aside have to do some research on which of my attys can be converted to bottom feeders. Thanks for the input B2L
