Hi!
I am new to this forum and Didnt find the answers i need in the other threads so i Will try here.

So i just ordered a single 18650, unregulated mechmod but am not sure what kind of coils or gauge on the Wire to get. I have some 26 gauge Wire laying somewhere and the question is, what is the lowest i can build?

I would urge you to do some research on battery safety, basic circuit theory, and safely vaping with unregulated mech mods before proceeding with any attempts at coil building.

Because the answer to the question you've asked is dead zero, a hard short circuit. Which is likely to result in you blowing your fingers and face off.

The question you need answered is what is the lowest resistance I can SAFELY build. And this is where the research comes in.

This is an elementary question, and you shouldn't have to ask it here, you should be able to calculate it in your head in about five seconds if you're starting to build for unregulated mechanical mods.

I'm not trying to kick you in the boys. But from the nature of your question, it is evident you are hazarding yourself by attempting to build before you accumulate the prerequisite knowledge to do it safely.

Read tutorials. Watch helpful YouTube videos. Here's some links to get you started:

If you use 30 guage and stay over 1 ohm you could be confidently safe.

The big thing to pay attention to is the battery that you use.
Use IMR high drain batteries.

If you already ordered the mech mod, you could have mentioned which one it is.

If you use the 26 gauge kanthal, you should be ok with 0.5 ohm single coil but you'd need to get a 20 amp battery.

If you do not already have a regulated mod, it's better to work with a regulated mod first for rebuilding; once you settle on a build that works well at 4 volts on your regulated mod, then you can easily transfer to mech.

If you stay over 1.3 ohms you can use a mech with a kick module

The cherry bomber's have a reputation.

If
- the outer case is metal and always-on negative,
- and if it's switched-negative with centerpin always-on positive
then the mod can be accidentally fired by laying down on a metal table or chair.

i have done my research on this mod and know what it can do, with autofire, the button and all that. Now i am just worried to blow my hands or face off when i read the comments above. Ive posted the battery ive orderd

Just want to make sure you understand your gear my friend. Vaping mechs is completely safe when a person prepares themselves with knowledge. Sometimes bad things happen when folks who don't understand the process or respect the power generated in that little tube jump in unprepared.

Like I said, do your homework, learn your gear, and vape safe.

Also: the VTC5 is a good, safe 20 amp battery.

Always assume your 18650 battery voltage is 4.2 for calculating purposes. So with a 4.2V battery, and a 20 amp limit due to the battery's continuous drainage limit (find those here: List of Battery Tests | E-Cigarette Forum), we find that the lowest safe resistance we can build our coil to be

Any questions please ask. My initial response may have seemed harsh, but we just don't want anybody getting hurt.

I know i sound stupid, but if i stay over .5 ohm i should be safe?

That's plenty of safety headroom. You should be very safe and pulling a little less than half of the battery's continuous discharge capacity rating.

What mech mod will you be running and with what atomizer?

My personal limit for a single 18650 battery is 75% of tested amp limit. So that mean 15amps on a battery tested to 20amps. This goes for both Unregulated and Regulated mods, for me. Yes, I treat regulated mods the same as UNregulated, as far as the batteries are concerned. With all the LIPO battery issues in the news and known conterfeting going on. I'm just not going to take the risk. Of harming myself or my device. I vape for enjoyment, which is hard to do while worrying about the battery.... So, my solution is vape at power levels that would be safe for the weakest batteries, while using the strongest.
