I am working on my mile and a half, when I quit, I could do 1.5 miles in 13 flat, I'm shooting for 10:15. I am also running 5k's once a week, while smoking I ran it at 29 minutes. I've only been quit for a week, in a month I'll post my updated results. I am in good physical condition...My muscles don't hurt after the run...but I can never get enough air...it's the reason for my quit. I love to run, and I love nicotine...now I can have both!

...I am going to try this for another month and them find another doctor, who will look past the fact I smoked for 46 years and really look for the cause
Good luck Windpray! Doctors can be pretty set in their ways. Think of your lungs live those hoarder shows. There is a lot of crap built up over those 46 years, but you're not going to have a team of people working 24/7 getting it all out. I hate those shows because real people can't expect results that quickly, and a doctor shouldn't expect quick results for you either.

Just don't stop trying. Do the exercises unless they cause you harm. People come back and amaze doctors all the time. The strongest medicine is laughter, and the human spirit. I believe that, if you will for something to happen, you will train your body to do the job required. It will take time and energy to repair the damage, but I think doctors have become more business minded rather than being healers. Just my thoughts anyway.

Might sound crazy...but I feel %400 better!

Not only returned lung capacity, but also............................

Less allergy symptoms in general...things that bothered me like crazy back when smoking are totally gone now! I once had an almost chronic cough (not fully smoking related...more linked to allergies that smoking of course irritated and aggravated even more)...it is TOTALLY gone now! I no longer need allergy meds (steroids, antihistamines, etc.) to get through the day.

Before, anytime I changed from cooler/warmer dryer/humid environments it would take me hours to adjust (almost asthma like). Now it's no big deal at all.

As a singer, my range increased more than an octave!

I find myself drinking more 'water', which as a side benefit has helped me feel better all around.

Breath, clothes, house and car all smell better.

Skin and hair looks better...

More than you asked for...but YES.........

I've tried to quit cold turkey several times. In each case I was down and out for WEEKS with chronic coughs for all that time my lungs were 'discharging and regenerating'. With the ecig...I never had that 'down time' of being super sick. About a week into vaping, I had a brief bout of my sinus system bleeding a bit...that only lasted a couple of hours....I blew my nose good, washed out with saline...and it's been all good since! I think the sinus thing was that it was all allowed to "HEAL" for the first time in ages.
