OK everyone, when you give up smoking cold turkey, you always get crap loads of gunk, and coughing and lung clearing out over a period of a couple of weeks.

I have been vaping for 4 days now and I have noticed that this is being suppressed by the e cig. It is like the nictine is stopping my lungs clearing out like they normally would do?

May sound like an obvious thing to happen, but surely if it isnt smoke going in, they should still clear out?

Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Thoughts?

When I quit analogs, I didn't cough anything up either - but after 2 weeks I noticed I had more breath. The PG is a natural lubricant, so maybe since your lungs aren't drying out - you are not noticing that anything is coming out. More than likely, you are actually swallowing the tar and other build up.

I've been vaping for 4 days as well, and I haven't had any sort of "clearing out" of my lungs either. I did notice that I didn't have that hot, tight feeling at the top of my lungs when I woke up this morning for the first time in many years, so maybe we are experiencing a more subtle change? (In other words, I don't really know either!)

My cleansing began last week and continues. At first I thought I was getting a cold, then I realized my body was expelling all the built up nastiness in my lungs. It's getting better everyday, but I hacked up some awesome loogies at first. I just find it great to go to bed without the coughing, wheezing, ticking crap that I had when I moked analogs. ;)

I have been vaping for 60 days, and completely smoke free for 40 days. (Yay! :))
I also have been wondering why my lungs have not been clearing out more dramatically. However, I have stopped wheezing, and can now breathe with my mouth closed...even while sleeping. (First time in 30 years!)

From what I have seen on ECF, many people report this process can happen months after having completely given up cigarettes, so I am not worried anymore. It seems the improvements are more subtle and gradual than I have experienced the multiple times I tried to quit smoking over the years.

I am just enjoying laying in bed at night not keeping myself awake from my funky breathing!

Nicotine causes the cillia (little hairs deep inside your lungs that move the smoke and dust that you breathe out) in the lungs to be paralyzed, but all of the other crap in analogs affects them much more. When you quit completely, the cillia start moving again and that causes the 'smokers purge' you are talking about.

With e-cigs, I think that how you vape and the strength of the juice can cause the purge to begin slower or take longer.

But that is just a theory ...

I quit smoking 3 years ago and never had any clearout at all. Smokes for 15 yrs or so. Think everyone is different. Main thing I noticed when I stopped was bleeding gums...not sure if you get that when you switch to vaping ??

Just brushed my teeth. Just noticed bleeding gums, not bad, but it was there. I'm pretty sure it's from quitting smoking.

Here's yet a different view. While I was smoking my 1-2 packs a day (for 40 years!) I would cough up stuff all the time....especially when I woke up every morning. I coughed up stuff every day. What I've noticed about vaping (2+ months now) is that the coughing has virtually stopped. I can take a deep breath without it triggering a coughing fit (like it used to) and I don't wheeze anymore when I'm sitting still or falling asleep. So when I started vaping, I really didn't have any big time lung clearing.....but I can take a really deep breath now without coughing....or without wheezing. Hmmmmm

Whatever....if you can breathe deeper without coughing....that should count for something.

My detox was different than some, but many have also reported my conditions. I started "ex......g" nastiness through my skin.

FOR REAL, I could wipe my clean (I bathe like twice a day) skin with a white towel, and it would get yellowy brownish greasy stuff on it. (eeewww) It is said that this toxic skin excretion is what causes the acne, and skin bumpies.

This has also stopped, and I feel 10,000 times better, and don't even snore anymore... I had been going to an ear/nose/throat doctor for 15 years for allergies, and taking medicine for it. I have now quit taking the medicine, because I do not need it anymore.

My dogs shed less and have less dander also.

I am only on my 3rd day of vaping, having given up analogs completely from the first vape. (Except for 1 analog, which I didn't really enjoy that much.) Although that's not nearly enough time for any kind of purge to happen, I can tell you this: I spend the bulk of my work day on the phone, and one thing I would make frequent use of is the cough button on my headset because I'd frequently have to clear out my lungs from all the phlegm production. I didn't have to use it once today, and although I'm still producing phlegm, it's not as bad as it was while I was on analogs. I particularly noticed it this morning, where I'd normally have my "morning lung purge" (yum). I'm also not coughing nearly as much.

So either this is a fluke and I'm having a "good lung day" (which has never happened, not on this level anyway) or the switch to vaping is already working its magic. Evidence, scant though it is so far, is leaning toward the latter.

Mines not that bad but I've noticed that my face is much, much oiler than usual and it kinda smells funny. I shower but then I'm oily again an hour later.

I don't know if it's common for anybody else but even with all my water and cranberry juice intake it still smells like I downed asparagus when I "go". Is there some type of over the counter kidney "flush" I could buy?
