 That's cool...I've never seen that before. I wonder if my camera does that. :?: Gonna have to go look and then try, if it does.

From what I gather it just takes multiple photos while racking the focus, then exports as an animation. You could make the same effect in Photoshop if you take several photos changing the focal length for each then animate it in the timeline.

It is a cool effect tho. :)

Its a little like a free program called Combine ZP. What Combine Zp does is you shoot something tripod mounted but when you shoot each image you change the focal point from far to near. You then take these images and run them through the program together. Combine Zp looks for the sharpest point in each frame and combines them into one photo. It extends the depth of field. THis is the same thing, well kind of, but its more animated.

Ya, I thought of that. Might even try it. :D I'll check my camera stuff to see if it has a setting to do it. Worst case, i can rack the focus myself, I suppose. Hmmm....

After reading the rest...yep. :) Just for fun. :D

The lytro images make me think my glasses are dirty...can the device take clear, sharp pictures?
FYI: if you want to play...check out "CHDK".

cheers

take the reo outside in some daylight. Place the Reo where you have some stuff in front of it a few feet and objects behind for a few feet to infinity. What you have to do is have interesting depth to the photo.

Or have lots of foreground with the Reo in the background then lead the viewer into the pic to the Reo using the technology thats its calling card.

place Reo at any of those spots then leap from one to the other to the other.

I'm not sure you're actually using the Lytro feature in the camera. It looks like you are just taking a regular photo and they are out of focus at that. I'd guess the camera came with some instructions on how to use the lytro feature, if not I'd look up some U-tube vids to get you started.

Like LT said, you'll definitely want a setting with objects in the fore, mid, and background to actually showcase the feature when you get it working.
