"mah" ??

I'm in my local vape shop, I'm looking at a battery and I ask the fellow about the capacity of the battery. I say "How many milliamp hours can this battery source?" The reply I received was "1600 mah" The "mah" was pronounced like "ma" as in mother. Mah.. Hmmm..

Now I'm in another vape shop I like to visit, I ask them about battery capacity and get a similar reply.

I've been in the electronics industry for over 45 years, and If I were ever to say "mah" it would be a bad thing. I'm curious if "mah" has become an accepted part of vaping lingo. To me saying "mah" suggests a lack of understanding.

Cheers,
Rusty

Its just a shortened version. They use this in every field of study/employment not juse vaping lingo... ie: police departments sending BOLO's out... Be On the LookOut. On the battery itself id think its just printed as MAH instead of MilliAmpHours, and people have just come into saying mah instead of the long milliamphours. whats the word, acronym?

My husband is a micro-electrical engineer. He is constantly having to explain how my vaping stuff works even though is doesn't vape.

Anyways, when I first said it like "Ma" for Mah, he freaked out on me and said "no no, hun, it's MilliampHours, never say it like that, people will look at you silly." lmao

It really should be said "milliAmpHours". It's only 4 syllables, for crying out loud! (And at least it shows that you have some concept of what you're talking about!!!).

If someone told me a battery was 1300 mah, I would ask him/her what a mah was. Then I would ask about the c rating of the battery.

(It's perfectly fine to pronounce "c" as "c", as long as you know what it is and what it means).

Look, I don't mess with dangerous things. I have my one device, I buy the battery that is recommended for that device from the shop that Carries that device. Since I DON'T know all about this stuff, I make sure what I get is compatible with what I am using. I also use a device that has a FANTASTIC reputation for its product.

I wouldn't buy it otherwise. Because I Know Me. I know my limitations.

I've been in the electronics industry for what feels like forever, and if we don't say "milliamp hours" we say the letters "MAH". I have never heard anyone in my industry say "mAh" It just isn't done. But then again, in my industry when we talk about a "mod", we talk about a modification to something, and not a fancy battery.

Rusty

Nothing wrong with that, if it weren't for Baditudes blogs I wouldn't be vaping on what I am now and even then know my limitations .5 and above on my Reo. I'm safe, happy, and vaping away on Nicoticket. (Shameless plugs I know but they're awesome and deserve it.)

That makes me feel pretty good I've never had to explain it or ask about it but I refer to it as M A H just like the letters are spoken. And I'm a welder not an electrician.
