A few days ago I stumbled across a 3d printed squonk box here Sledz UK SLMS 18650 Mechanical Squonker Enclosure – Sledz UK – 3D Printed Battery Sleds UK and Europe and immediately placed an order as I have wanted to make a mech squonker for quite a while. I ordered all the parts I needed from another UK store here ModMaker.co.uk and thought it would be fun to do a brief ‘how to’ guide on how to build one.

My plan was short lived as shortly after I had placed my order I found this video online, which very briefly descibes how to do the very same thing

Although brief, most people should be able to make a working mod from that video with minimal tools. My experiences were different to Todd’s as I found the case I ordered required a lot of sanding in order to get it how I wanted it. Being a perfectionist, I spent considerably longer than he did to make mine, but I wanted the fit and function of everything to be perfect. Bearing that in mind, the whole build only took me around 2.5 hours. Some pics can be seen below;

The result is a solid, rattle free, hard hitting 3d box mod. All you need to get is the following;

Enclosure - £11.75
MM510 - £5.99
22mm washer - £1
Large 510 nut - £0.99
MM bottle kit - £2.99
Copper contact - £3.99
Magnets x3 - £0.30
Actuator button (optional) - £3.99
Tube end (optional) - £0.50
TOTAL - £31.50 (plus postage costs)

Good fun for those with a spare day as I had :)

Just bear in mind that the enclosure needs quite a bit of prep. Not difficult to do, but it is certainly not ready to go out the box.

Nice, and simple.

What exactly did you need to do to the enclosure to make it work? Did you do a lot of sanding on the exterior or mainly just fitting the door?

Also - what size are the magnets?...and I assume the bottle is optional if you have a stash of bottles as I do for my Reos and others.

Thanks for the post - very interesting. :)

Pretty much every part needed some level of work. The door had a lip which needed to be removed, the 510 washer cut out needed work, the button hole was too tight, and the section that holds the contact in place needed de-burring. Sounds bad, but it didn’t take long to do, it just needed to be done.
