I just downloaded an e-book onto my kindle called "Make your own e-liquid" for $2.99. I figured for that price, I'd check it out. It has instructions for making your own nicotine base as well as the flavoring base. Another section deals with various mods (like making a drip tip from an ergonomical pen), refurbishing attys, and some other cool stuff. It also has a coupon code for TW (dcf9d) that takes 7.5% off and never expires. While I don't know if I'll do a lot of the stuff in here, it's kind of nice to have all that information in one place in a book format.

Thanks for sharing this find. I've bookmarked your post and will probably download the book soon. As you said, it might come in handy!

I was actually surprised it had a recipe for making the nic base (although I guess that makes sense!) and that it went into detail about refurbishing the atty, etc. The only thing is it has a pic showing what the finished juice looks like and talks about the color, but kindles are black and white lol. I guess if you follow the measurements and have some experience with what color your juice normally is, you shouldn't be far off. The e-book was the only way you can get it, too.

After reading your post I checked to see what more I could find about the book. Here's a link to a preview on Google Books Google Books - Preview - Make your own e-liquid. For those who are interested in searching for it in hardcopy here's the ISBN 1453873767 and the Publication Date: 2010-10-12. Here's a link to the Amazon page Make Your Own E-Liquid.

Ok so I'm a library geek and this proves it.

I'll check that out for my iPad. I can download books from Amazon too. If it works, I'll let you know what color it is! ha

I read the preview of the book and while i"m sure there is a lot of valuable and correct information in there, I am a little put off by the author stating that after shredding, boiling, straining and reducing to a syrup the tobacco from a couple packs of cigarettes, you now have "pure nicotine". Need I elaborate? No. I didn't think so.
More forgivable is his saying you will need a measuring cup marked in both ounces and millimeters. lol. Good luck finding that.
I will probably buy the thing though, if for nothing else, to support the guys effort. I do appreciate his publishing it and putting the information out there.

I would agree, there's probably no way to get pure nicotine at home. You can buy almost pure nicotine which is about 99.5% pure, but to make it probably requires lab equipment. As far as measuring cups, most of my kitchen measuring cups are marked in oz's and ml's, but if you're looking for accuracy you'd probably want to use more precise equipment. I think it great that someone is actually trying to publish information on the subject, but it's going to be a highly specialized audience that would have an interest at the present time.

Anyone considering extracting their own nicotine should read this:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/2200-dangers-diy-nicotine-extraction.html

Edit: After reading more about this and thinking about it for some time I have come to the conclusion that this is an incredibly stupid thing to do for someone who is not experienced in chemistry and dealing with extremely dangerous substances. We are already struggling to fight e-cig bans....someone keeling over from something as dumb as this will only ensure the demise of vaping.

Yes, as stated in the text, the color picture is the one on the cover. A full color publication would have greatly increased the cost of the book, which seemed unnecessary for just one color picture needed.

I am also considering a second edition of the book including things like "throat hit" and how to go completely battery free! I am also testing the new peg-400 E-liquids available.

Thank you: Mike Sands

So we have the actual author chiming in!
As I said above Mike, I appreciate the effort and would love to see it remain unabridged with further updated additions for as long as new techniques, equipment, raw materials and other information are becoming available.
Vaping is still in it's relative infancy and a well documented and indexed source of good information compiled into book form and delivered electronically is definitely worth publishing. I would hope that at some point, you will decide to publish it as an analog book as well.
Good luck with it.
