Making DIY, getting soapy taste?

Hi there, just getting started on DIY. I made up 4 different 3ml bottles last night, and let them rest until today. 3 are great, just like I would want them. But, the other one has a distinct soapy taste. I have read that over-flavoring the juice could be a culprit, but I just put in 15% flavor into an 80/20 PG/VG mix, with the VG being cut 80/20 w/ distilled water. My question(s) are: does anyone have any experience with getting soapy flavors DIYing before, and what should I do to alleviate it? I've got some ethyl maltol, but would adding that increase the flavor %, making more soap? I also have some of that Vapor Magic on order, so maybe that would help? I'm setting the liquid aside for right now, let it breathe for a bit, but any tips or opinions are certainly welcome. Thanks.


Oh, I forgot, the soapy eliquid was in making a caramel apple juice, according to a recipe found here on ECF. Perfumer's Apprentice Green Apple 70%, PA Caramel 30%.

In my experience, 15% shouldn't present a soapy taste. What nic juice are you using? I guess I would try lowering the percentage to 10% and see if you get that same taste.

Thanks, I'll try 10%, I'll just add a couple more drops of PG/VG.

I'm using 36% PG nic juice from DIYFlavorShack, so I don't have any worries that it is the nic juice at all.

I've mixed PA caramel and apple 50/50 and not had any problems with soapy taste. I'm a little partial to the Green Apple/Caramel mix myself. Could it be that your bottle was contaminated?
