for building my own coils. Just purchased an ohm/volt reader. Would have liked to have purchased a 510 tab, but not really sure I need one at this point. I like to buy pre-made coils, but also plan to make my own. I vape at 1.5 ohms so been playing around with Steam Engine to find the best combination of wire/mm/heat and getting a bit confused. This is a screenshot I took in case the tobacco product (software:confused:) gets pulled from the net. I guess this will be my baseline to work with. Does it appear ok? Any help appreciated.

The settings you have in there looks prefectly fine for your target resistance. The ohm/volt reader can also function as a build station so I don't think you're going to need spend on a separate one.

If you don't have ANY tools for coil building, I would def recommend getting the coil master v2 kit. Its got literally everything you need to build your own coils minus hex screws for velocity style decks.

Most of velocity style decks I've built on (I have about 20 different RTAs) require either 1.27mm, 1.3mm, or 1.5mm hex screws with 1.27mm being the most popular.

Don't forget ceramic tweezers!

Yep. A must. This is the kit I keep in my truck. Does everthing and quite simple.

1. Screwdriver set
2. Ceramic tweezers
3. Sharp scissors
4. Mini wire cutters
5. Small spool of 28ga kanthal
6. Organic cotton pads and rayon.

I build above 1ohm and use regulated mods so my ohm meter at home is mostly just a building station. Building can be as easy or hard as the user wants it to be. I like simple. Lol

I just bought a jig to wrap coils with. I learned on my little blue screwdriver and a leather needle

Pretty much the reason I got it, plus was wrapping a coil yesterday and messed it all up and the ohms were all over the place and didn't feel safe having to keep checking it on my mod.

A handy item to have, if you're a serious coil builder, is either the Coilmaster 521 Tab or the USA Ohm Meters Fire Meter. You can do all your building, adjusting, test firing, and wicking, before putting the atty on your mod.

I purchased a Flat 510Tab - (seems there are (2) versions), From 101Vapes during their last Sale. $18 and 3 shipping.
Glad I did as it gives me Back up meters(now stored) and a nice large build base for working.
The ability to Test fire/Burn in/Tweak right on the 510Tab makes everything so much Faster and easier.:thumb:

Excellent deal you got. 101Vapes is a great place to shop. Got my eVic VT for 23.00. Always keep my eye on that store. :)

Ok, there's all kinds of fancy devices available for rebuilding, and I have most of them. They make it more convenient, but aren't truly necessary.

My first build kit was a set of precision screwdrivers, toenail clippers, scissors, a roll of wire, a cigarette lighter, and a bag of cotton balls. When it comes right down to it, the cigarette lighter wasn't really necessary, just nice to have.

Cut a piece of wire a few inches long. Generally, for a single coil, one wrap from a spool is a good length. Grab an appropriately sized round object (such as a small screwdriver), hold the object and one end of the wire, and then wrap the free end of the wire around said object with the other hand. At a minimum, that's all you need.

Having a build base can be handy, but I rarely use mine. I put the atty on my mod and build there. I hardly ever touch my ceramic tweezers, mostly because I rarely make contact coils. When I do, I just heat the coils with a lighter until they glow, and then install them, which is usually enough to get rid of most hot spots.

However, I have switched to using a coil jig, because it makes it easier to get nice, even wraps. To space the coil, I use my pocketknife to gently pry each wrap apart, until they're spaced to my liking.

Out of my whole kit, with all the fixings, I use the coil jig, a pair of cutters, a pocketknife, an Allen key / screwdriver for installing the coils, and scissors to cut wick.

BOOM!
