Hi :) I'm a new vaper and I've tried a lot of juices... didn't really like any of them. It's been a problem. The one flavor I can vape on the regular that keeps me from going back to analogs is menthol. To be honest, I haven't found a menthol to date that I really love, but I can tolerate all of them.

I figure given my inability to find juice flavors that resonate, and the fact that the FDA might be intervening soon and making it impossible for me to vape nic juices, I might as well start to DIY. Also I guess it will save me money.

Can you guide me through? I vape 6mg 50/50 usually, but I'm open to skewing the PG/VG ratio a little.

Should I buy 6 mg nic plain by the quart or gallon, and then add menthol flavoring? What is the easiest, safest, and tastiest (and most natural) way to go about it?

Thanks for your help - I am truly grateful.

6mg seems a bit low. Could that be what drives you back to analogs?

I'm not a menthol smoker or vapor. However, I have a couple friends that do both and I have made ejuice for both. A couple questions. First, are you looking for a tobacco flavor or just menthol? A lot of menthols have one of the mints (I.e. Peppermint). This will typically sweeten and and more flavor. Also, what ejuices have you found that you can tolerate? I'm certain there are some menthol fans here that can guide you to a good recipe with a bit more info.

Good luck!

I'm in the same boat. I want to try as well. I would prefer a menthol-tobacco type juice, but I keep coming across sweet or overly "minty"
tasting juices. Where should I start?

Nothing has driven me back to analogs - since the day I started vaping, I've never smoked a cigarette again.

I vape 12 mg every now and then if I have a strong craving; the rest of the time, I vape 6 mg. Anything higher gives me nic overdose symptoms. (I only smoked a few cigs a day in my former life as a smoker).

To be honest, I have no idea what I am looking for as far as flavor, because as I mentioned, I've tried dozens of juices and none of them have really done it for me. I can vape any menthol flavor, be it tobacco-ish or not, and be OK with it. I don't love it, but it's tolerable and satisfies my cravings. No other flavor is as agreeable to me, so I figure if I'm going to DIY, menthol is what I'll primarily make.

If you bought the liquid at strength it would be lowered slightly by the percentage of flavor added. Economically it is also better to buy at a higher percent and then mix down with PG or VG to get to your correct level. Even if you only buy a base that is 12ml it would go twice as far as the 6ml would and would cut your final cost by close to half since the nic base tends to be the most expensive part of the mix.

As far as menthol mixes go I think one of the issues is that menthol can develop some bitterness or a gummy sort of feeling if the percentage is too high. At the same time it isn't much of anything at all if it the percentage is too low. I like to put some low levels of other mints in a menthol mix so that it has some support. Peppermint, spearmint and wintergreen are all good options. Those don't even need to anywhere near as strong as the menthol to support it either. I've also had really good luck with using menthol over a fairly random mix of fruit that I didn't like just dumped in together. You can't really taste any of the fruits but it seems to smooth the menthol considerably.

I'm not a Big Menthol Vapor. So I can Only give you One Piece of Advise if you Decide to Add Menthol Flavoring to your DIY Recipes or Retail e-Liquids.

A LITTLE MENTHOL GOES A LONG WAY.

Take a look at the hangsen selection here Hangsen e-Liquid Flavoring | ecigExpress

Both the USA Red and RY1 are good mixers with menthol crystals. Menthol crystals are going to give you the purest menthol flavor. The post above mentions how to dilute them. I'd pick up a few mint flavors while you are at it. Also mentioned above, if you are into fruity flavors, go for a few to test out. Google wizard labs. You can pick up nic based VG or PG along with non nic versions of each. PG is synthetic and VG is more natural. PG holds flavor better and is thinner. VG gives better vape but needs to be diluted with distiller water (5%) to thin it out a bit. As a beginner, I would not purchase nic over 60mg as it can be a little more risky to work with. KEEP NIC AND EJUICE AWAY FROM KIDS, PETS AND STUPID ADULTS. Wizard labs also has bottle, syringes, graduated cylinders etc.

There a a number of ejuice calculators online that allow you to enter the ingredients and target nic levels to get a final recipe. Here's a starting point:

10ml PG based Nic at 18mg
17ml VG (no nic)
2ml Distiller water to thin out the VG
? Drop Diluted menthol

This will yield roughly 30ml at 6mg nic. Add 2-3 drops of the diluted menthol at a time. Shake the mix like there is no tomorrow and let your nose be the judge. All recipes change over time as the flavors blend. If something isn't good at first, give it a couple weeks locked away. Optionally add 20 -30 drops of ry1 or other tobacco flavoring. Doing so will reduce the nic % slightly in the recipe above. Hangsen also have a couple of menthol / mint concentrates. Give them a try. Last but not least, search the forum for menthol, you will find lots of posts and recipes that use it.

Good luck!
