Associated Press salt LAKE CITY (AP) - A man has been arrested and jailed after authorities say he pelted a flight attendant with peanuts and pretzels on a Southwest Airlines plane from Los Angeles to Utah.
Pogos Paul Sefilian, of Sandy, Utah, faces a federal charge of interference with a flight crew.
Authorities say Sefilian was on a flight Monday evening when he attempted to smoke an electronic cigarette. A complaint filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court says a flight attendant repeatedly told him it was against airline policy and to put away the device.
Authorities say Sefilian became enraged and threw peanuts and pretzels at the flight attendant.
He remained held. His attorney declined to comment.

This is exactly the type of activity that will hurt our industry the most .. so may posts I've read over the last couple months stating "I'll vape where ever and when ever I want" ..

I'm surprised he didn't get beat down from other passengers. Seeing "smoke" rise from the passenger sitting in front of me is cause for alarm, and may result in a laptop to the back of the head. Seeing that he didn't get jumped, he was probably disclosing what it was (to everyone around him) before he started vaping.

Still, another passenger probably complained to the flight attendant, who let him know it wasn't appropriate to vape in the plane. He chose defiance, and will now spend some time in the pokey or face a hefty fine.

I'm guessing some will chime in with the old "It's not fair, it's not harmful, let's boycott the airline, I've vaped on a plane, we all need to do it openly because that's the only way we'll be accepted" .. etc, etc, etc ..

Vape acceptance or not, the behavior is ridiculous. It IS against their policy and the guy should have landed then called or written a complaint, not thrown snacks at attendant. He also should have checked their policy before flying and deciding to make it an ordeal

Agreed Possom. There are so many ways to go about this without getting thrown in jail. Take a bathroom break and vape the whole damn carto. This is what I do. I also have a pack of snus available, just in case the bathroom jaunts aren't practical.

Regardless of the cause, airlines and law enforcement don't take crap anymore. Play the fool, and you're gonna get smacked by jail time or fine.

If he is going to toss peanuts and pretzels at the attendant then he is really asking for it. He should of done exactly what you said ThreePutt, go in the bathroom and take care of your business there. Could of easily avoided jail time

Sadly , there are a lot of so called veterans, on this forum , that do believe it 's their right to vape , where ever , and when ever they want . They don't stop to think , about the irreparable damage , that that attitude is causing . Instead of moving the vaping cause forward , they are making more and more places , ban e-cigs , right along with the dirty sticks .

The guy was an obvious ....... What did the nicotine-addicted (raises hand) do in the days before e-cigarettes? We f'ing toughed it out. We chewed gum, chewed our fingernails, did crossword puzzles, slept, fidgeted, and then ran like hell for the "smoking lounge" at the destination airport (or as of late, got the heck outside as quickly as we could).

Smoking has been banned from domestic flights for a number of years now, while e-cigs have really only been widely available for a few years.

His behavior definitely makes our fight for e-cig acceptance (or at least, understanding) harder.
