Chester, that idiot Ray LaHood (head of DOT) officially opined a few months ago that e-cigs do indeed fall within the Total Smoking Ban on airplanes. Because, like, they have the word "cigarette" or something in the name. Even though nothing is burned, and they produce zero smoke. You know. Your Tax Dollars at Work.

(*shrug*) I don't smoke in the airplane lavatory or tamper with its smoke detector in violation of federal law of course; but I am quite certain I have forgotten myself and vaped there. Many times.

It's a very Zen sort of thing. If they don't SEE anything and they don't SMELL anything ... did it happen?

Idiot rules were made to be broken. Their net effect is to destroy respect for authority.

Sort of reminds me of the old cliche ... Will you respect me in the morning?

I won't respect the head of DOT in the morning because I don't respect him the night before either.

hehehe...I REALLY don't think you wanna know what was said:blink:
No we really DO! LOL...

Ummm...back on topic...I usually preface my entrance into the Plane lavatory with a loud..."WHEW...I shouldn't have had that Breakfast Burrito before getting on the plane. I think I'm gonna be a while!" That usually gets me enough time in there to get a GOOD Nic Fix going.

Southwest has had a no-ecig policy on their planes for a long time now. It was on their "Safety Instruction" card when I flew to South Padre back in April of 2010.

Although, it's something to note that the man was arrested for assaulting the flight attendant with the peanuts and pretzels. He was NOT arrested for attempting to use his e-cig during the flight.

This story has already hit CNN, so there's a lot of exposure around it in the general ECF forums. It's amazing how fast something this stupid travels when it just mentions the fact that he uses an e-cig. People get escorted off the plane all the time, but it never makes big story news unless it portrays something controversial to the public. In a way, it's because e-cigs have gotten as popular as they have that the story has been printed by so many different news publications.
