Man I wish I could. I'm drawing a blank in my search. It was a pretty interesting discussion too. Got a bit heated there for a minute.

Not going to swear by it, but I think you're thinking of a different incident. Maybe. Perhaps.
Well, I am not sure I like to "rely" on some cheap chinese "chip" to keep me safe. I mean, electronics do have failure points.

I guess it really depends, for me, who make the chip and if the device the chip goes into is also a reliable manufacturer.

I am very much against all this constant "blame the user" though, because, as I indicated in another topic similar to this one, I've vaped for 3 years and I would not intuitively know that I couldn't use certain atties with something like the SMPL mod and other stuff. Don't kid yourself, there are people on this board who have vaped a while and don't know stuff......people may be less willing to admit that than I am.

However, ANY battery (esp. if you don't buy good ones to begin with and don't have a good charger) can do weird things. That is why after people have failures of some sort, and you always see them coming on here and saying "can I still use the battery?" and mostly we tell them ..........don't.

Spend another $10 or so and get a new battery.

And these people aren't idiots. They are people who vape every day, and participate on vaping forums.

Besides, the blame game, in the face of an accident (ANY accident whether vaping or not) just always seems extremely convenient, and somewhat distateful. The longer I live the longer I realize that ..... every time I step outside to do something, in the wrong shoes, etc. or when my 75 pound retriever gets a little too frisky with me.

Accidents happen and people don't *deserve* to be hurt, ya know? We are all absent-minded sometimes, or are not consciously "focussed" at every moment of every day even though we kinda need to be.

There but for the grace of god go I.........

(A few years ago I visited a small child on the burn unit and it happens in "blink of an eye" how fast a toddler can move and there was something on stove boiling.....he had good parents, caring parents, not bad parents. I would have punched out anyone who made any kind of remark about this.....in the face of so much human suffering, it is just distateful to me
Nicely said. Also, how many times have we heard from someone who had no clue about vaping go into a B&M and got talked into buying something way above their experience/knowledge level. These places really need to be held accountable for their actions. Hall, half those sales people don't seem to know what they're talking about. It's not like those buyers climbed over a concertina wire fence and dodged the caution signs to buy the equipment, it was recommended to them by salespeople who should know better. A few bad apples make the whole industry look bad in as far as the press/public opinion goes. Sorry, running off at the mouth.

Pretty sure it's the same hospital photo.

Damn sure it's the same mod and battery photo.

But there's always that chance I'm a little off.

There was a guy on FB who showed his burned tongue in the hospital. Pretty sure his name was different though, and that his mod was a 4 Nine or SMPL. It definitely wasn't a Skeleton Key.

They sorta run together after a while. Unfortunately.

Can this happen to a regulated mod my MVP 3.0 pro with my RDA at .25ohms at 60 watts after some chain vaping got so hot I had to put it down

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is overheat protection in that mod but only for the circuit board. And the battery is most likely a LiPo. If it got so hot you couldn't hold it anymore, that's wayyyyyyy too hot in my opinion. The battery temperature is much, much higher than the outside temp of the mod.

To answer your question, yes it can happen in a regulated mod. It's rare, but overheating a LiPo is not advisable due to the very violent reaction if it goes into thermal runaway.

And running a 60W mod at 60W isn't good for the mod either.
Think about having a car that can rev to 10k rpm. Would you even consider running all the time in first gear, pegged at 10k? It's rated for those rpms, but you'd probably run it a couple thousand less than that, at least, to prevent the engine from failing one way or another. Same with our mods. :)

    It's one battery. It's an 18650.
This story has been covered here before. Someone posted screen shots from a Facebook discussion and information about the incident when it was posted before.

Was it this guy? I thought that turned out to be hoax.

Is this mostly happening with high watts, mech mods,...what? I have just bought a cool fire 4 and have dropped a few times, should i throw the dam thing away?

Most mech mods have a top cap with a 510 pin. The attys 510 makes contact with the mod's 510, which in turn contacts the battery.

Some mechs like the SMPL have no 510 pin. Just a threaded hole. So you screw on your atty and the atty itself touches the battery.

This is the SMPL. On the left you see the top of the mod. No centerpin.

Glad you posted this pic, see how it only vents on bottom. If the battery were to swell towards the middle, it could seal off the tube. Then pop the tube towards the top. That's one of the problems with some mechs, the vent holes can be closed off and then battery rupture. Granted this is not one of the worst offenders but we need to keep in mind vent placement when buying.

I honestly think the nemesis is one of the worst with bottom holes that are tiny. Of course all I have to go by is clones, the authentic may have larger holes. Remember how many bad clone attys we've seen with mis placed holes, no hard to think mods would be too
