I really still don't understand why any of this requires regulation from the government.

If people want to blow their hand up, let them.

I also don't understand why people that vape care about regulation. If vaping is illegal, just vape. Amazing. Problem solved.

Because we care about all the potential smokers that come after us. Like my grandkids, my great grandkids. And all the smokers that haven't found out about vaping yet. I firmly believe that vaping should remain a viable alternative to smoking.

That is why I care about whether or not vaping is regulated. I care that others have the ability to choose.

there seems to be a lot of hate for mech mod users and cloud chasers in this thread. can we all take a step back and remember where we are please? this is ECF, we do not vilify vapers on their choice of device here.
Here's what kind of puzzles me...

When cloud-chasers go out of the house and vape in public, do they tone it down?
And if so, does it become significantly less satisfying?

Maybe a topic for a new thread.

I don't cloud chase, I flavor chase. I do use a mech and a sub ohm build so I do get clouds. Im always confused as to what "in public" means to people. ive seen it mean on the streets, as well as inside businesses. when im indoors I don't vape, hell I don't even vape in my apartment, not because I have an issue with it, I just like being outside. if im walking down the street I will vape normally, Im not concerned with what people thing of me.

my build is

nemesis mod
plume veil
.42 ohm dual coil 26g kanthal with cotton

Read the article and the vape shop owner they interviewed stated "....If you don't take care of your electronic devices things can happen,” This is true with ANY electronic device...cell phones included. Plus, they didn't say he was attempting to blow a huge cloud or that he was at an event....he was in a liquor store and like someone else said on here, who knows what actually caused it to malfunction?

But yeah....this will give our govt one more reason to slap regulations on the vape industry and add more "laws" that in the end will take away our rights!

Like it or not mech mods can never be totally safe and imo should only be used by people with a very good understanding of everything involved even then things can go bad and cause injury. What absolutely should not be happening in any responsible industry or community is the selling and promoting of mech mods to new users regardless of how much they really really want one. Nor should new users be sub ohming and before anyone makes and installs sub ohm coils they should ask why someone needs them to make that setup for them because barring a medical reason anyone who knows about something has the ability to do it themselves. I've seen too many sales made to people who dont have the first clue on what they are doing and I am now banned from the nearest b&m to me because i made that clear in the shop amongst other things.

The vaping industry is not currently regulated and there are far too many people cashing in on vaping and not caring about the safety of their customers by selling completely inappropriate setups out there. Government has to regulate it because we can't as a community there is very little we can do to affect the bad elements out there now selling dangerous and bad quality setups. A regulated standard of quality is needed, guaranteed quality on eliquid are any of us really opposing being able to have peace of mind that our eliquid is as safe as it can be?. Minimum age also likely 18 here in the UK not sure of the age in america, proper training for anyone involved in anything more then pure selling of equipment which should also have a knowledge training element so they can at least advise responsibly.

People may not like any or some of that but if we don't get behind and frame some common sense regulations to allow the governments to be seen to be doing something we will end up with non vapers and those with no interest in vapings future doing it for us the wild west days of vaping are coming to an end how it goes is up to us

Oh and the stupidity of most of the debate in this thread shows why we need something so much off topic rubbish made this a hard thread to read.

These are the kinda stories that will eventually ruin the vaping world. All these stupid "cloud chasing" competitions and events. What the hell ever happened to using vaping as an alternative to smoking? Pumping tons of vapor into your body, ultimately to show off and 'out-do' other people? What a joke. Just a bunch of losers.
No its people who have made up their minds about something they have little to know facts about that is going to ruin vaping the way we enjoy it now. Pretty much just the exact same way you just did.
Personally I feel bad for the guy who got hurt ,But then again I dont think the world revolves around me and everything someone else dose is to ruin my day. what a selfish cold heated statement!

Clone is irrelevant. Mechanical with an Atlantis I am hearing. Woulda had a cheap .... battery or one that has ripped wrapper I am sure.

I use mechanicals all the time. I run 20amp and above batteries but I use 7 amp fuses. I build .8 ohm coils and that does not even blow the seven amp fuses.

I'm not scared either vaping will continue and I'll continue vaping or it won't but if these incidents keep happening and we are seen to not do anything we invite others to do it on our behalf which is what will happen. No element of fear needed or felt just reality only an idiot honestly thinks it can continue without some form of regulation we can either be part of that or continue moaning on forums and getting no where fast.

The guy was using a hybrid mech mod with an atlantis (i.e. the atlantis wasn't made for that). So it probably shorted out and caused his battery to vent.

However, he did say he had just taken the battery off the charger and put it in the mod. So perhaps he did have an "overcharging" issue. The story didn't mention what kind of batteries or charger he was using, but I would be surprised if it was an authentic Sony, Samsung, LG, AW, etc. And I would be extra surprised if he was using a smart charger like the Intellicore.

So, either his battery was bad, his charger was bad, or the atlantis didn't like that hybrid mod. When using these high power batteries for any application, there's always a chance that they could go up in smoke. Our smart chargers and regulated mods aren't even 100% safe. Electronics can fail.
