So I've noticed my SS hcigar Nemesis mod hasn't been hitting as hard using my Kayfun+ so I thought to check voltage drop using several different batteries i had on hand. Needless to say I was shocked with the results I got and need help. First using my multimeter I checked each battery individually and under load which gave no change. Next I tested while firing 1.0 ohm Kayfun build touching probes on pos and neg posts. Here's the results I got on 5 different batteries. First # is battery outside, second # Is voltage while firing Kayfun and third is voltage drop.

Sony vtc5 4.05 - 3.6 = .45
Sony vtc5 #2) 4.17 - 3.73 = .44
Purple Efest 18500 4.16 - 3.6 = .56
Red Efest 18350 4.14 - 3.4 = .74
Red No Name battery i never use 18650 4.18 - 3.65 = .53

What gives? I clean my mod weekly so I know it's not the culprit. Can Anyone understand what the problem may be please?

Well, the veterans on this forum will have more experience with the specific equipment you're using, but speaking generally as an electrical engineer, every battery is going to have some internal resistance, so when you put a heavy load on it there's going to be some voltage drop just from the high current involved. I think in general this will be less with higher capacity (mAh-wise) batteries. Probably depends on the continuous current rating of the battery, too. I could wrong on that though, batteries are weird and weren't covered as much as you'd think in my college courses.

Edit: Just had a thought, if this is a new problem you haven't had before, maybe you've got a short somewhere. That would definitely up the current, and thus, the voltage drop.

I'd have to know more about how the mod is constructed to really answer that, sure it could ruin a mod but I'm thinking it would have burned something to the point where the mod just wouldn't fire anymore. Maybe if you burned the insulation on a wire or something, that could cause a short that would give you voltage drops.

It's counter-intuitive but maybe you need to use a higher-resistance coil, drawing less current would sort of counterbalance the voltage drop. If you're interested, read this: Maximum power transfer theorem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When measuring 'voltage drop' as mentioned, you are measuring the 'health' of the battery and the voltage lost due to the circuit path. Tje nemesis has a lot of contact points which does not help the voltage drop issue. Also, the solvent used to clean the nemesis may be the culprit. I used Apple Cider Vinegar one time and while the mech looked great, it's performance degraded rapidly.

Im still using the stock spring it came with, I purchased magnet uograde when I bought it but dropped button and magnets broke. I think I will give it a good cleaning and see if it helps. I use the Sony vtc5 batteries the most so they have gone through the most charge cycles. The other 3 batteries I use seldom yet they show largest drop. I thought maybe .2-.3 woukd be normal drop but maybe im wrong. I just wanna get the most out of my batteries/mod.

Well first.. Nemesis clones are notoriously janky. I know several friends with the EHPro clone and squeaky threads, messed up locking rings, voltage drop (on all of them, just based on how it feels hitting them).. Really, if there's a problem, it exists in the nemesis clone.

That said, trying to replace the spring might change the voltage drop a little bit. I don't think it's likely that you burned any insulation or anything like that, unless you have noticed your mod getting insanely hot (either from the button or from the top cap). In my opinion/experience, you have probably always had this voltage drop on this device.

Boy do I feel like an idiot now. Lol

This was just a wild guess on my part. I always wondered why there were two springs in there :) I'd rig something to check the voltage drop before shopping. All I know that they do sell bottom switches separately. OriginVape has them, but I don't know what clones are compatible. But folks there are friendly, you could ask.

If you've been using your toppers for a while be sure to clean the contacts where the resistance wire is attached. A loose of dirty connection there may not be noticed and would cause a voltage drop.

If you use a nylon dental pick (some come with little bristles) with some NON-abrasive metal polish to clean any oxidation. Any abrasive on the contacts will roughen the surface which will encourage poor connections and further oxidation. Clean any residue with alcohol and rinse further with water.

Do you mean clean the Kayfun deck where the screws hold down the resistance wire?

Stainless steel Nemmy I would presume. When compared to my brass Chi You, or brass Caravela, my SS Nemmy has a lot of voltage drop too. That's why I have a Kick-2 under my KayFun on it.

OH-and, get magnets from FatDaddyVapes. They don't brake from just breathing on them.

Lol. You presumed correctly it is a SS nemmy that I've been using. Brass or copper mod which is better in your opinion?

Yup, cleaning the screws / holes / contact points of any re-buildable topper should help in reducing your voltage drop. All and any contact points in the circuit will increase the voltage drop, just focusing on the threads or the switch is only doing half the job.
