I have had my Maxi for about a week. A day or so after I received it the battery would cutoff within a second, forcing me to push the button multiple times to get a semi-satisfactory drag.

I took off the switch to see if there was a problem with the connection and this is what I found:

The switch board is soldered to the 510 connection! The madvapes website says no soldering required to replace. This setup is very different from what is showed on the website.

The Help section of madvapes shows a very different Roughstack top:

All About The Roughstack

(bottom of the page)

So, could this be the problem with my Maxi? And if so, how do I replace the switch with a new one (which have not been in stock for a while....) if the current one is soldered to the top?

LibertariaNate,

The cutoff issue happened while using the 3.7v 18650 Li-ion battery (the ultrafire 2400mAh version) and using a 2.0 Boge carto. I am waiting for my new Boges to soak before trying them with the new battery.

My SmokeTech dual-coils work fine on both. (I just figured that one out with the new catros I just received.)

Mnementh666,

Thanks for the link.

I guess it must be the new design then, though I am not sure how I feel about the soldered connection with the 510 adapter. When I took it apart I felt as if I could easily rip the wire off and then have to run to the hardware store to buy a soldering iron... or wait and order a whole new top.

    in a cave, eh?
The quick disconnect one actually uses a spring to make an electrical connection to the atty. If you can desolder the connection, the regular replacement switch might still work.

Or you can just talk to a MadVapes representative, get them to agree to fix you up properly and possibly return your current cap and switch. Good luck.

My RS still working great since I replaced spring w/ wire.
I used solder on both ends of wire.
The MV wire by OP looks like it has a quick disconnect on switch assembly end of wire.
    Can't it just be unplugged?

A common issue is some cartos center post does not protrude enough to make contact w/ some PVs; carto center post must be pried out a bit sometimes.

I just checked RS load voltage at 2.3 amps. RS is over two months old. Spring replaced w/ wire. RS load voltage same as other mod w/ an industrial switch.
Maybe not the best switch in the world but it is pretty good considering the smaller form factor.
BTW, RS switch is not sealed so it is a candidate for soaking in appropriate solvent for cleaning.

After hooking up a couple of adapters to run eGo Mega Dual Coil cartos on my RS Maxi, my spring connection experienced a blowout. Thankfully, MVs customer service is fixing the problem with a new wire connection. When the spring/straw fails, it's pretty ugly. Since I never opened up the cap in the two months I had it, I think I'll be fine with a hard wire.

Just out of curiosity, Emus, could you explain the switch soaking? When it's needed, how to tell, what to do, etc?

I'm about to order a 510 Ego Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Kit, once back in stock, but awhile ago I ordered a switch replacement for my RS v2 it was literally 2 days before I heard about the wired switch replacement. I've read that Madvapes will trade the switch for free can I get one with the order I'm about to place? I haven't even opened the spring switch replacement yet.

Since switch is not sealed it can be cleaned in ultrasonic.
    I use alcohol.
If no ultrasonic you could soak in your favorite solvent and blow out w/ compressed air or suck out w/ shop vac.
If switch is working I wouldn't clean it.
