I'm kind of a newbie, and I think I must be doing something wrong here. I have a maxi roughstack which I'm running at 6volts using 123a's, but when I'm screwing on the cap, it acts like I'm pushing the button down. I've twice had it burn up my carto's without being pushed, and I'm getting a bit nervous about it. I switched caps, but had the same problem, so my question is should I be taking out the spring? Is there something else I'm doing wrong?

I love my maxi rs, especially as I'm a total clutz and drop it at least twice a week, and it keeps on ticking. But this problem started from the beginning...

Love madvapes, love the service, love my maxi rs!

Ideas, help, please?

Thanks so much! ~ Ronda

What is probably happening is that the switch solder points are hitting the battery positive contact so it's pretty much turned on when you screw it together.. Battery variations, switch variations are usually to blame. There's a couple of fixes you can try but the simplest to see if that's the problem is to put a piece of electrical tape on top of the switch solder points as a temporary test..

If it fixes the problem you can try:
Battery spacer/top magnet for the battery to keep it from hitting the switch solder points
Adding a larger solder blob to the center positive contact of the circuit board.
Fililing down the protuding switch contacts

Let me know what you come across, of course if none of the above are options for you we can work out a solution here.

Hi Hoog, Thanks for the fast feedback. I'm on vacation at the beach, and don't have a lot of my usual doohickeys here to test that out. I did check both switch solder points to see if you are on target, and looks like you are. Any thoughts on a materials at hand solution? Just has to get me through a couple of days until I get to my soldering equipment at home. Right now for safety, I'm just unscrewing it when not immediately in use. Bleh...

I won't post a link to another vendors site in the portion of the forum that madvapes pays for, but here is a link to a google search that will help you find them.

If you use lifep04, IMR or ni-mh batteries or if you use AW or MNKE li-on's with flat tops, you should have a couple of magnets for PVs without raised contact points.
