The membranes are very expensive for the true RO performance. Even with prefilters I'm surprised you get a year out of one. I forget one of the few really good things in NY is the tapwater. What you have coming out of the tap without filtration would barely be a step above drinking mud.

I'll drink Phoenix and San Diego county mud any day of the week over NYC water.

I've been to the reclamation refineries.

That's actually a screwdriver or bad photoshop ...lol....it's not the pull cord.

The pull cord doesn't come out of the air filter in a chainsaw.

Kind of off topic, but have you considered using something like a Berkey Water filter rather than bottles of water?

Yeah we've been looking into filters, but not all of them remove Chromium-6, so we're still doing the research
The problem is 'filtering' (pardon the pun) out the science from the new-age claptrap.

I live on Long Island, and my family and I only drink bottled spring water from sources outside NY.
I'm from England and have only lived here on LI for eight years, so I probably haven't had enough exposure to worry about. Neither have our kids, because they have been drinking bottled water most of their lives.
I do worry about my wife though because she's lived here her whole life.

There is much debate about the high incidences of certain types of cancer on Long Island (or whether they exist at all) and the water supply is not confirmed as the reason (though it's looking likely given recent findings).

We still hedge our bets and stick to bottled spring water though, and so do many other people who live here.

The one exception is that I drink filtered tap water at work, but as I said, I haven't lived here my whole life and we intend to move to a different state eventually.
No idea if the water filter removes the cancer causing chemicals, but I don't let it keep me awake at night.

Probably a good idea to get into some water quality and filtration knowledge.

Tom Barr might be a good person to discuss with.

His focus is on conservation and fancy fish tanks, but he's got one hell of an education and working knowledge on the subject... and he's somewhat easy to get a hold of.

I fear what is likely leaching into the bottled waters and the waters origin to begin with.

If that were an air filter, I'd agree.

But no 2 stroke engine has an air filter larger than the engine itself.

Still won't catch me putting the business end in my business end under any conditions.

here's how old I am....The first thing I thought was: ReadyWhip is better if you hold the can upright and don't let the cream out. The second thing was: Oh look, a name.... The third thing was : I wonder if that's real leather? Then finally...what everyone was probably thinking...."I bet that window glazing contains asbestos."
