I was wondering what chance a lawer would have against Health Canada. My thought (actually more of a brain fart) goes like this. If cigarettes are proven to cause cancer, among other things and e-cigs are a new product that has less cancer causing agents in it, would it not be criminal to willfully withhold this from people? in a sence without the e-cig being available. people who have tried quiting with the available products would have to smoke which will lead to their deaths. Is this not a form of voluntary manslaughter? Maybe I've been awake way too long. but as I ponder this in my pv insomnia state of mind it does seem plausible. any thoughts:p

law aside people who smoke analogs are doing so by choice and there for withholding a better options would not be considered manslaughter. according to wiki def of the term it is the will full choice to kill a person so therefore withholding information is not will full. did they plan to withhold it no if it was truly withheld we would not even know it but we do. the information is available if hard to find but not with held. at least IMHO

HC has valid reasons for concern over e-cigs. The case may be overstated and the perspective they are taking (absolute safety vs safer alternative) is definitely counter productive to a healthy populace, but I don't see how intent to harm could ever be proven.

In the end, I still believe e-cigs will be available as an alternative but I expect they will be lab controlled, expensive and possibly only available with a prescription for quite some time.

Yes it was a long shot idea, I really knew there was little chance, although it did'nt seem inplausible. My hope is health canada officials read this and realize the ramifications of their actions. Maybe just maybe they will see the light

You and me both. We could save up to 40,000 lives a year in Canada and at least 15 billion a year in national health costs. I have to believe that in the end common sense will win out.
