Mech forever.

Went to my local B&M today looking to purchase a new box mod. Luckily they didn't have anything appetizing so I decided to buy my first mech. Owner sold me an elite smpl with a dark horse rda. Got home charged my batteries built a .4 and holy mother of mercy. I will never go back to regulated it was unbelievable. I can't believe I waited this long to buy a mech.

Amen. I wanted to start using rdas and rtas but my zmax could not put out enough power so i had two choices. Pay big bucks for a higher watage vvvw device or get a sexy looking cheaper mech. It took some additional learning for safety reasons but it has been great. I still use my darkhorse but have been rocking my troll rda more lately. I like that it has a 4 post design, makes building a dual coil much easier. I also have a tugboat and have recently aquired a subtank mini in a trade. I only have two mechs right now, a stingray and a maraxus, looks like i need two more.

You think thats GOOD, then try THE TOPPER on a 40+watt regulated mod and have the same hit everytime from charge to charge.. rather than the weaker hit with every hit, we get from our mechs. It's not the battery holder that got you that great vape.... IT WAS THE COIL and the atomizer.

Non believers! Burn the witch!

Yup and when ya shatter the screen or the button starts auto firing, you'll be blowing another 60 bucks

If they could figure out how to get the chip in a tube I would consider it, personally I think box mods look stupid, and have no desire to hold a big plastic block up to my face lol

Shatter the screen from my sig 50 watt at work that's why I was going to get a new box. Can't blame the box though I was at work about 2 stories up. Concrete is not that forgiving. I understand the build has more to do with the vape experience than the mod but the same build I always make proved to me the difference.

There isn't anything necessarily wrong with the new devices. I'm sure they work well.

For me, they are just getting way too large and bulky.

The battery life on a mech has never been a real bother for me. I feel like it is a bit exaggerated sometimes.

Whether new devices vape "better" or not, a mech can still give a great vape. And of course you have the durability of them.

To me the whole experience is what makes for a great vape . No regulated device matches the pure DC power delivery of a good mech . Also the tactile feel of a silky smooth magnetic switch enhances the experience not to mention the ergonomics of a fine mech just blows box mods out of the water . The aesthetics of a mech is equivalent to a smoke from a fine pipe vs a pack of cigarettes look of a box mod .

I'm a believer that there's a difference too. When my batteries for my mechs are charging and I switch to my 100+ I can't get the same enjoyable vape no matter how much I adjust the wattage. I think it may have something to do with the ramp up speed of a mech vs vv/vw.

try some nichrome on VW devices, heats up real quick. I only have vw mods that go up to 30-40 watts, so I cant even try to get the same vape I can get on a mech, I can get like 80-100watts of power from a fully charged battery for a long while on my mechs, which is nowhere near the 30-40 of my vw devices so I cant compare. Although 0.17-0.2 dual nichrome coils come fairly close at 40watts on my vaporshark.

Wow you mech guys are a tough crowd. I picture you guys with zztop beards and driving Desotos. Heh heh, yup I'm an old dude who still knows what a Desoto is. I have two regulated box mods. Never had tried a mech, think tubes looked kinda cool, so decided what the hell. Got me an (Hcigar) Nemesis clone, popped some magnets in the switch and off I went. Here has been my experience (and it's not been long). So far I'm a bit underwhelmed. After using those dual battery mods this Nemeses seems to lack some of the oomph of what I was getting before using same tanks/RDA (pretty much everything I use is in the .4 to .5 ohm range with the exception of my Nautilus Mini that I use only for tobacco vapes). Maybe it's in my head but the vape seems different from dual batteries to a single battery. Not saying the mech is bad or anything, just different (from someone who was using nothing but dual battery box mods). Maybe it also has to do with me getting used to the drop off in voltage as I vape (from first hit on) which I do notice. This mech is going to take some getting used to (style of vaping). I'm still rocking with it though to see if my beard grows and the Desoto pulls up in front of my house with some cool mech dudes in it.

I love the look, the form factor, and the simplicity of my mechanical tube mods. I have nothing bad to say about regulated devices, they're just not my thing. As for getting the same hit every time, it's really not that important to me - I typically vape between 14W and 10W as my battery drains and that works well for me. I accidentally drained a battery below 3v last night because I wasn't paying attention as the vape was just fine for me.

I had a similar experience last week. Was strictly a regulated user. My buddy found a great deal on nemi counterfeits at a local b&m and hooked me up. Have been using my mini 2 as a charger since.

I like the form factor. The fading power seems to suit my needs as the day wears on. Having this experience leads me to believe that the best regulated device would have a battery indicator, output a consistent 3.7v and handle .4 ohm loads.

Well that drop off change from vaping 10-14 watts to 35 watts (or higher) is quite a bit more pronounced. What I've also really noticed is with a dual battery regulated mod, it is a lot more forgiving to the battery condition. With this mech I have, the battery has to be top of the line in tip top condition or the voltage will be dropping off way too quick for me at the wattage I like to vape at. An example of this would be some ebay wannabe Sony VTC5's I bought (since got a refund on them and they let me keep the batteries). On my dual battery regulated mod with those batteries I can vape at 35 watts for a good half a day (my good batteries will last 2-3 times that long). I take one of those cheapos and put it in my mech with same tank and I'll be extremely lucky if it lasts 1 hour before the vape is no longer enjoyable to me (just too weak for my tastes). Mechs are a first choice for some but not for all. I enjoy my mech experience for something different but it's sure not my go to daily vape. I've become way too spoiled with my regulated mods in vaping to my set wattage without drop off and having the longer battery life with consistent vapes. To each his own I guess.

Have you considered a dual battery mech ? A parallel box mod like the Cherry Bomber built in the .1 or .2 ohm range certainly doesn't lack oomph , neither does a Congestus running dual 26650's at 8 + volts .

I'll say because no one else has. OP should be aware of the extra safety considerations when using a mech that has a "hybrid style" top that connects directly to the battery. I'm pretty sure the Dark Horse is ok, but you need to make sure that the center positive pin of your RDA protrudes a sufficient distance from the surrounding negative threads of your 510 connection. RDAs or tanks with spring loaded 510s are also a definite no. It's possible that you are already aware, but just to be on the safe side.

Some light reading on the subject.
