I've actually been looking into getting a mech mod for a few weeks now and I've been on the forums and a bunch of other sites every day trying to find out everything I can before I buy whichever one I finally decide on and from what I've been able to find all mech mods suffer from voltage drop. However, hybrid cap mods seem to suffer a lot less than a mech with a 510 top cap because the positive end of the battery makes direct connection with the 510 pin on your atty. The downside to that being if the 510 pin on your rda/RTA isn't long enough and the battery connects with the 510 connection instead of the pin, you'll cause a short.

Age on a battery is not gauged in months/years.

It is a process of Battery Stress over time and charge cycles. Batteries head toward total failure from day one and there is no stopping that. How fast it reaches failure depends on usage/charge cycles/storage
Allowing a battery to cool, both Before charging and after charge(before using) can extend battery life.
