all this talk about mech's blowing up makes me sad. I myself use mech mods, and I have a regulated mod as well. I love them, but all this stuff about blowing up scares me. I wish there were mods that were 100% safe

Look Ma! No battery!

I moved to VW mods after my brothers high end 26650 mech vented, and blew up..seems the pin on the Atlantis sub tank didn't protrude enough for the hybrid top cap and caused a hard short, spot welded the button shut, got very hot and he had to drop it. The venting 26650 batt blew both end caps off the tube and shot a hole in the ceiling barely missing his girlfriends head..The tube shot around the room like a bottle rocket, burnt the carpet and set off smoke alarms... Good news is nobody got hurt..bad news is he can't vape anymore in his apartment.. I got 4 mechs back in their boxes I don't use anymore after getting my first VW mod with shorted atomiser protection, the 150w IPV3..this mod is awesome for its performance and as close as being 100% safe as I can get...

Those hybrid top cap mech mods which require a protruding center pin are a recipe for disaster when offloaded to people who don't know what they're doing.
Then some people will think "oh it just needs the center pin to stick out" but then when they screw the tank on, the act of screwing the tank ends up pressing the center pin back in

Those devices should not be on the market. When someone gets hurt and sues the manufacturer or retailer they will win, as they should. That doesn't bother me so much (other than that people had to get hurt to stop this practice) as the harm it can do to vaping in general.

Unless people want more regulation. The more people that get hurt the quicker it will happen.

OK, I'm starting to get confused by all the recent reports of mods blowing up or venting. Even six months ago there were no stories like this, at least none that I had heard of. What is causing this recent rash of mishaps? Can't help but think it is the builds that common today that used to be thought of as dangerous or downright crazy.

Six months ago vaping .5ohm was cutting edge, anything lower than that was seen to be reckless. Today people commonly vape .2ohm set ups. There must be a correlation between the vast movement to super sub ohm and the number of stories about batteries venting.

What could the other causes be? Bad batteries on the market? Cheap gear? Uneducated vapers that watch a Rip Tripper video and think they "understand battery safety" after ten minutes?

These stories are not good for vaping at all and the experiences certainly are not good for those involved. Let's all try to be a little more careful out there people. If you don't understand how a mod works, ask before you use it. If you don't understand battery safety, learn!

A lot of it is the super sub ohming. Why go lower than .4? .7 is my go to for a mech, and it clouds up just fine. 1 super nano coil on a bed of cotton is an amazing cloud build.

For you. for me, 0.4 sucks.

0.2 thereabouts is my sweet spot. Probably go above that when i get my Sigelei though..

Still proper battery safety

A dash of brains, a bit of knowledge, and a whole lot of paying attention to what you're doing can take you very far. Not just in vaping. 6 months ago there was almost no such thing as running a dripper on a regulated mod. Somehow we all managed to get the job done with a mech, and most of us didn't blow anything up.

In all fairness, Rip said he wouldn't recommend batteries until he found a good substitute for Sony's.
But, I think it's
1. More batteries coming out with crazy claims
2. More people pushing the batteries under the assumption that they know how to pulse it
3. More hybrid top caped devices (just buy a valkyrie, they look amazing!)
4. More shops that push more expensive devices on new people

Actually, most of the time I hear about burns/explosions it's eGo batteries, shorts and badly designed mods. Unless we're talking about DeeJay with the vape towel and even he's still around and in one piece AFAIK

there are mods that are 100% safe.... they dont hold a battery and are made of soft non burnable foam that doesnt allow an atty to be attached to it :)

I think you got a lot of it covered.

There's also the growth of vaping; more and more people switching over to vaping; and at the stores, there's more profit to be made selling a metal tube with a fancy name.

The problem is, all these people blowing mods up, are the guys that come in looking for the " e cigs that make the big clouds". Their buddies have one so its the cool thing to do. It's part of the cloud chasing fad. People are attracted to the heavy vapor. Nobody cares or knows enough about the safety and dangers of them.

It's only a battery and a tube, how dangerous can it be, right?

Sadly, that mindset won't change anytime soon. It is what it is.

Wasn't trying to blame anything on Rip at all, just seems every time I hear a new vaper go off about cloud chasing he is bragging about some killer Rip Tripper build he just put in his brand new RDA.
