In general, no. Mechs were first used to get more power to the coil as back in the dark ages as regulated mods were then limited to about 15 watts of output. Now, though, you can buy regulated mods upwards of 200 watts. I'm vaping a 200W Snow Wolf as I type-- at 35 watts, mind. There are a number of reasons mechs are still fairly popular. I'm a mekkie and have been for years. The last time I bought a new mech mod was this morning, it hasn't even shipped yetso i picked up a k box 40 watt the other day and i was thinking about getting a mechanical mod as well. my question is, would an average mechanical mod be more powerful than my kbox?
But the best possible cloud-busting power is no longer one of these reasons.I would not recommend to buy a mech mod until you are comfortable with rebuilding on regulated mod. You need a lot of experience in coil building if you want to try a mech.
Your experience is outstanding, but it cannot be applied to an average vaper.I beg to differ sir. I went from ego batteries and a Kanger Protank straight to mechs and gennies 3 weeks into vaping. I did very well with them. Two years later I'm still rolling mesh wicks and winding coils. It's a matter of doing your homework and applying yourself.
For my part I've no interest whatever in boxes, or electronics in my vape.
Your experience is outstanding, but it cannot be applied to an average vaper.
Yes, I do not like mechs. I am an average vaper.Because you don't like mechs.
If anything, I'd consider getting a mech as a back-up. Sooner or later, all regulated devices will fail, but a decent quality, properly cleaned mech mod will fire every single time. As long as your atty of choice fires reasonably well at around 3.8 volts (or whatever wattage it takes to get you there), a mech will be just fine.
As everyone else mentioned, it doesn't make sense at this point in vape technology to get a mech for more power.
Exactly right on the mech for backup, I always bring at least one mechanical to work...Electronic components fail, a well maintained mech will never let you down.
And a good quality regulated mod will never blow up in your hand or set fire to your pocket.
I've been vaping for over 2 years. I've got mechs, I've got regulated mods. I haven't touched a mech in over a year. There was a time where mechs were the only way to get a big vape as regulated mods were all limited to 15W or less. Those days are long gone now, as are the days of unreliable electronics in ecigs. Today any coil build you can safely do on a mech I can do and apply more power to and get a more consistent vape from on a regulated mod, and there's no reason why a regulated mod won't last for years if not decades of use. Sure, electronic components fail, but I doubt you drive a 1950s car out of fear that the electronics in your car are going to fail. Batteries fail and coils short, and when they do that regulated mod is far safer than your mech.
Don't kid yourself, electronic shorts create bad situations and regulated mods aren't immune, there's been a few reports with pictures of regulated box mods completely melting down...
to your comment about a mech exploding in my pocket...that's highly unlikely in my case, yes I know...stuff happens, and it happens with everything, not just mech mods.
I'd be willing to bet there's been more reports of box mod meltdowns than there has been of mech tubes exploding.

Sure enough, 5 threads about problems on the first page alone. And that's not counting the thread about safety concerns. Seems the claims of ultimate reliability may be a bit unfounded.
