Actually, either removing the battery or the atty attachment would break the battery's electrical circuit. It would then be safe to carry in a pocket or purse without worrying about accidentally pressing the fire button.
I should know, this type of accident happened to me early in my vaping career. After receiving one of my first mechanical mods, I got into the habit of storing my Altsmoke BB and Silver Bullet in a pants pocket in my locker at work. I change into a uniform for work. I frequently go to the locker room during work breaks for a few quick vapes.
As you can see from the below pic, the BB has a protruding horn fire button which can easily allow accidental firing of the power switch when compressed in a tight space, ie. pants pocket. Well, I go to my locker for a vape break and reach for the BB. It is too hot to touch! ...!! The power switch had been activated continuously until the battery hard-shorted and went into thermal runaway, blowing out both ends of the battery, melting the plastic covering, and venting extremely hot gasses.

The battery was a "protected" Trustfire 14500. It didn't offer enough protection to prevent my battery from venting and melting.
I stopped using Trustfire brand and protected batteries altogether. I now use only AW IMR (safer chemistry) batteries. I no longer put the BB into a pocket, but use a Serenity Gear leather lanyard to hang from the locker's coat hanger.
I recommend using extra protection in a mechanical mod such as a Vape Safe Fuse.
Batteries : Vape Safe Mod Fuse 2 Even if you still use protected batteries, this allows another layer of safety. Make sure your mechanical mod has drilled vent holes to allow hot gasses to escape in case of battery runaway and has a clean "hot spring" which will collapse in the event of a over-heating battery to break the electrical circuit. If you are going to pocket or carry your device in a purse, either remove the battery, remove the atty attachment, or if disabling the fire switch is an option, use it.
Also, do not carry spare batteries in a pocket or purse which may have metal to cause an electrical circuit. Plastic battery cases are cheap and can prevent destroying a battery, a burn on your leg, or a burnt purse.
