THE REASON WHY THE MECHANICAL SWITCHES ARE ONLY MADE OF DARLIN AKA (SPECIAL HEAT RESISTENT PLASTIC) IS BECAUSE OF CONTACT ISSUES IF THE SWITCH CONTAIN ANY METAL ON HOUSING IT COULD POSSIBLY SHORT YOUR PROTEGE/V2 OR EVEN CAUSE YOUR BATTERY TO POSSIBLE HEAT UP AND EXPLODE. REMEMBER YOUR PROTEGE/V2HOUSING ACTS LIKE NEGATIVE TERMINAL AND YOUR POSITIVE TERMINAL WOULD BE THE CENTER CONTACT TIP ON YOUR ATOMIZER'S ADAPTER. THATS WHY STEVE MADE IT STRICTLY OF DARLIN PLASTIC.. ANOTHER THING STEVE IS DOING IS HE'S ADDING A VERY SMALL RUBBER BAND ON THE PUSH BUTTON PART OF THE SWITCH SO THAT THE CONTACT RING REACHES THE (2) CONTACT POINTS THAT ARE ON THE SIDE OF THE DARLIN THAT DEFINTLY FIXES THE WHOLE MECHANICAL SWITCH PROBLEM I JUST PURCHASED (2) NEW SWITCHES FROM PS AND RECEIVE IT 01/19/10 AND THEY WORKED PERFECT BECAUSE MY PERVIOUS MECHANICAL SWITCH WAS ALSO GIVING ME PROBLEMS TOO. I WOULD PUSH THE BUTTON AS HARD A COULD AND IT TOO WOULD NOT LIGHT UP MY ATOMIZER I GOT SICK OF IT I DECIDED TO ORDER THE (2) SWITCHES AND HE FINALLY FIX THE PROBLEM I KNOW FOR SURE THAT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE SWITCHES ARE FINALLY FIXED.. :w00t::thumbs:

Mine and my friend's (V2s) have the rubber band. We STILL have to fuss with the switch at least once a day. My friend is new to vaping and got so frustrated he almost gave it up. There comes a point when the switch just won't fire up the atty (it seems to give juice -- tounge test -- just not enough) I then take apart the switch, scratch with my finger nail on the contacts (not that I see anything there), blow some air at it, put it back together, and usually I'm good for another few hours. Getting old though...BTW, I love the V2 when it's right. Just frustrated...

What I did for a fix on my switch was to debur the plastic around the contacts inside the switch, then used a wire brush on the contacts to shine them up really good. I also put a touch of noalox on the contacts as well to keep them from oxidizing. After doing this I haven't had a single problem out of my switch and it's firing like a champ every time

I was also having switch problems. I had tried all the reported fixes and nothing. In another thread someone mentioned turning the posts flat side down.
I did this and have had no problems since.
My switch does not have a rubber band on it.

Mine was made better by turning the posts flat side down but still have issues intermittently.

In the land of no hills and red dirt
The mechanical switch on the exhalers sometimes get a bit of corrosion the prevents consistent firing. The solution on that switch can be a) running a bit of 400 grit sand paper between the switch and contact b) cleaning with alcohol and a q-tip and c) putting a bit on noalox (found at home depot) on the connection to cut down on the corrosion/oxidation.

I went from sheer frustration to the heights of ecstasy after I found drew's switch fix/cleaning videos and threads on the xhaler forum.

Hope that helps.

I am really worried now. My Protege has the original "metal" switch/button. If there is the possibilty of my battery exploding or my Protege could shorten out due to having the old switch, should'nt this be a "recall" due to the dangers involved?
At the very least, should we not be able to get the newer switch at at least a discount to repair it ourselves WITHOUT having to send it back?

Mpet --

There are still roughly 1,000 or so Tact switches out there in Protege's that have never failed.

I have never seen a battery explode, and I have even tried to make one explode here :) I shorted the switch, and put the Protege under a garbage can ... Checked on in ever 5 minutes or so for 15 minutes. Battery eventually just dwindled down to nothing. Tube went from hott to lukewarm.

Protege's switches are listed at a discounted rate.
