Ok, I've been here thinking about our situation. As a vapor, I do not want to loose this important freedom me AND my family has found. I sit here reading and wondering, researching and putting two and two together.
Me thinks we need a type of spin for the National News networks. Now this is just an idea, and it's my hope that someone here is much smarter than I, and capable of much better writing than myself.
First, reading through this and other forums, I noted that many members have e-mailed, called, and snail-mailed letters to our 'represetitives' and elected officials. In all of those cases that I have read, they have recieved a canned response, almost the same from each official. We need to collect those up, all of them. Not cut and paste here, but e-mails forwarded, calles logged, and copies of letters sent to a central collection point. Seperate the corispondance (?SP) into the three political views; Repub, Dems, and Independants. If we get multiple copies of the same form letter from different members, GREAT! If we get the same canned letter from DIFFERENT Representatives, EVEN BETTER. The more we can collect up the better. The idea is to show the media that this is an important topic that is being flatly ignored by our elected officials. We need details, everything that we can get. They get paid for a story, and have people to collect the data the need out of what we can send them.
Next, we need to collect up all of the ACTUALL data that proves our points. How is it much safer. What PG really is and what it's in as far as our daily lives. How the 'toxins' compare to BP's cissation products. Hell, send them a couple of DIY recipe cards to show them EXACTLY what goes into our juices (and I'll even donate my best recipies! On cards even!). Again, send them everything that we got to prove our point. Links, hard copies, references, and if possible or feasable, phone numbers. Get some numbers from our polls here, and canvas the other forums for the same. What moves people are numbers, numbers, numbers, and more quantifyable numbers.
Sprinkle in some of the hard direct language that I've seen here about how important vaping is in replacing analogs. Using that same language, state that we see how our elected officials no longer looking out after their #1 Special Interest, which should be thier citizens that put them there, but thier wallets and their 'other' special intersts, namely Big Pharma. Also, and this is important, that if the FDA and our elected officials are so able to boldly defy public safety and longevity, what other areas of public health, safety, jobs and whatnot are they also doing this for thier own interests. I know someone here (and I can think of a few folks who could) write a heart felt "'WTF' are you doing to my life and why" speech. We can also talk about the jobs that are here in the USA, and how this market could grow. And give the options of how the country can maybe even lead the world in Harm Reduction AND CO2 emmisions (just throwing that in).
Add in some of the success stories, and eventualities if they continue thier disinformation campaign. Stress prohibit sale to underage, but also stress adult informed decision. Use the other analogies, caffene, alcohol, fatty foods and such. Basically, take this forum, the campainging section, and paraphrase our hearts and souls.
Lastly, and most important, we play thier game
we make it SPIN. We all know which primary affiliation CNN is, as well as FOX and MSNBC. Well, we gather up the majority of the DEM responses, sprinkle in a couple of the REP and IND with them, and SEND THE WHOLE KIT AND KABOODLE to FOX News. With CNN and NBC, we do the same thing, but we focus on the Repubs and sprinkle a bit of the rest. If we are lucky, multiple channels will pick up and head .... each other: BWAAM our message is loud and clear. If only one picks it up, and it's loud, the other channels wouldn't be to far behind I think, to save face. Really quick, our reps will see their names and lack of action is being noticed, and publicized.
What I invision is that the public sees that our reps really don't have control of the FDA and Pharma, they have control of our reps. Our interest, not just in vaping, but in our general lives are being over looked. We need that, expand out of just vaping, how that control is not where it should be, at the PEOPLE.
Bottom line, we need to start playing dirty, just like them. We need to play their game ON OUR TERMS. A pool shark doesn't win because he's good, it's because he knows how to play the player, not just the field.
Before someone says "it's your idea now run with it." Because of my active duty status, I am severly limited on how much I can 'question' the chain of command, per se. There are ethic grey lines that this sits on, therefore, at the moment, I can only throw the idea out there. Hoping that someone with a little more savy will pick up what I am suggesting. After my retirement late this summer, I'll have the opprotunity to be more vocal. I cannot jepordize 20 years when I'm right at the end of it, especially with a foreign born wife on a visa. But, I will stand by and help in anyway I can from the sidelines. I really wish I could be more active, I hope you understand that my family's future is first.
If this is workable, please have at it and let 'er rip! If this is just a bad idea, just let it die out and we'll figure out another way to go forward.
